My friend used some kind of a tar thingy to put instead of the carpet.
I think it's similar to the stuff they put on roofs to seal it from water n' stuff.
It was pretty easy to work with, but quite messy. Just cut it so it fits and use a flaming torch to heat it so it glues to the place... I'm sure there are some kits available for this stuff.
Probably there are some other ways to do this aswell.
I've seen ol' International Scouts 'round here that have this rubber carpet or what ever it's called.
(not really a carpet, but something in that direction)
