What The Heck Happened???

Hey guys,
I have a 1990 4Runner 4x4 3.0 Automatic. The trans started giving me problems over a year ago, so I just parked it and haven't driven it since. It was running when I parked it and the battery went dead in the meantime. I tried to jump start it yesterday and after I hooked it up and turned the key to the "on" position everything lit up and gauges worked and when I turned the key to "start", I heard a click and everything went dead. Now not even the gauges and lights on the dash will light up. Any ideas on what I might be the cause of this dilemma?
Thanks in advance

Start by checking your battery cables. If the old battery is still in there remove the cables from it and try jumping it again.

So no matter what, you can't get the lights and gauges up?

It occurred right after you drew a lot of current...

Have you checked all the fuses?

Yeah, check the fuses and fuseable links (rectangular things) in the underhood fusebox.
