EM pulse

I was reading a book the other day where the plot was based on a bomb producing an electromagnetic impulse. Most of the vehicles in the story were disabled due to this impulse. Started me thinking. Does anybody know if the older model (1986)4-Runners would be affected by an electromagnetic pulse?

A little sci-fi here...

With that idea, the EM pulse disrupts all electrical devices. An EFI (fuel injected) 4Runner would be effected, but a carburated engine would not.

Thanks !

What would I have to replace on my 86 4-Runner to get it running again after an EM pulse?

It also would kill the battery. But if you are that close to an EM pulse the bombs that follow it will take out everything, so no 4runner and no roads or people. In other words bend over and kiss it good by!

An EMP, (along with radioactive fallout) would have a greater range than the blast zone.

Keep your 4Runner parked in a lead lined garage and you won't have any problems

EMP would likely fry your ignition, as well. A steam powered vehicle, a bicycle, a horse.....best suggestion was by previous poster- kiss your ass goodbye

Actually there are a lot of theories on EMP and newer vehicles. None proven...good for us, 'cuz that means someone has to detonate a nuke to prove it!
A few other forums out there have looked into this. And the general belief is that if SHTF tomorrow...no one knows.
