o/d off light issue

The overdrive off light on the dashboard of my 1990 4x auto 4runner is flashing.

Any clue as to what issue its linked to?

Ive also noticed my spedo has stopped working, i think the cable is stripped just behind the dial... so any ideas of where i can find one pretty cheap.. that would be great.

These 2 events are usually linked- once the speedo stops working, a signal goes to the ECU and it flashes the OD lite. At least on older 4rs. Try a junkyard for that cable,or your local auto parts store, I dont think they're pricey.

yah, ive got a 90 4runner... i figured thats what it meant...

But with mine, it wasnt just that the cable stopped working, it happened over a period of time.. the needle would bounce, as if it was stripping itself... then it just finally quit..

does anyone have any parts diagrams for that area? or instructions on how to get behind the dashboard and into there, so that i can replace it?

You can download a factory service manual a couple of places on the web. search 4crawler.org for where, there are also references to where to get one on earlier threads on this forum.
If the needle bounces, good chance a gear in the odometer head is bad.

well the wonderful thing about it, is that it used to bounce!

Now, the spedo just doesnt work.....

i can hear the cable skip behind the actual speedometer, just like it did when the needle bounced..

im thinking its just completely stripped, which may mean i need a new spedo as well.... or at least the connection point.. but i dont believe you can just replace the spedo needle and cable connections without ****ing everything up...
