You can move your filter any time. I stuck mine on the fender right next to the intake plenum.

Unhappy Issues with KidVermicious fuel filter location

I'm new so cannot add a new post yet but looking for guidance on using the same location for the fuel filter that KidVermicious used. I spent the weekend removing the old filter and routed my fuel lines and mounted a new filter in the same location. I connected up the fuel lines and used new washers but cannot get a seal on the connections. I'm basically spraying gas all over the intake manifold from the engine side fuel line. A post on a another forum said I had run the fuel lines through the clips on the fuel filter but that does not seem relevant. I've tightened the 17mm bolts as much as I can. Any ideas are appreciated.

Mui Mal. The banjo bolts have 2 copper washers, one on either side of the banjo. IOW: bolt, washer, banjo fitting, washer, filter....on both sides of the filter. If the banjo is scratched or damaged, it wont seal properly. If the sealing face of the bolt or filter is scratched, likewise, wont seal properly.

If you are spraying fuel, I would say you have either a damaged filter, banjo or line, or the bolt is cross-threaded. The fuel pressure on these trucks is not that high, I think its only 15PSI or so. I have never seen one spray, only drip or just get kinda wet. If its spraying, its gotta be a big misalignment.

I move mine to inside the passenger frame rail about where passenger footwell is located.

Thanks. I did have one of the old washers still on the bolt but I still have a leak on the engine side between the washer and the fuel line. A very fine mist. I did order another fuel filter but it only came with two washers. I will try a new one. Given the leak location it's probably not the filter itself. My truck sat for two years and ran horribly rough when I tried to start it. I'm trying to get it running to sell. First vehicle I ever bought, way back in '88.

it isn't high, but it's higher than 15psi. at idle, spec calls for anywhere from 30 to 38 psi (year matters), and at WOT, 35 to 45psi.

i know from experience the 22re won't run well at 15psi (i run a pressure gauge off of the CSI banjo). it will run, just poorly. went through about 7 or 8 fuel pumps circa 2015 to 2016, each one failed after a short time (one lasted 15 seconds). although i don't know the reason, i believe when the original pump failed, it failed badly and chewed itself pretty well, introducing a lot of metal filings between the pump and the filter. those filings remained in the line, flowing back to the pump at shutoff each time, in turn ruining the new pumps. i eventually pulled all of the fuel lines and used compressed air to blow them out, then used brakecleaner, then blew them out again. last pump installed early 2016, still running after 50K miles.

Amazon has numerous copper gasket kits with various sizes for under $10.

LMK if you want to sell it as it sits, I may be interested.

Good to know. Its also interesting that this same pressure seems to work fine for the 3VZ and 5VZ injections systems as well. When I swapped in the 5VZ, it ran beautifully on the 30+ year old original fuel pump.
