Poor Mileage or it is just my imagination?

Hi... I'm a 6 Cilinder engines fan.. i just get rid of a straight 6 BMW which gives me about 250 - 300 Miles on a full tank.... anyways that is a not that heavy car. I got the 4 runner last week, and so far by now, after filling up the tank, im about 60 Miles ran and its half tank now... it is that normal? whats the average mPG in this car? Im not worried about the time that the tank lasts, since i dont use the car that much ( i walk to the office) but my concern is when i want to go out for a long trip do i have to keep stopping anywhere for gas?

please advice

I just sold my 95 sr5 for this reason.250 miles per tank 13 to 15 miles per gallon It sat alot when gas was 4 bucks a gallon. The newer v6 is better but the old 22re is the best unless you can find a diesel. My 87 4cyl 5speed is getting around 22mpg.stock tires.

Was that 250 Miles on open road? i barely think mine will get more than 150 miles on the city... but on open road, 250 miles it is not that bad though....

What year is your 4Runner, is it a 4 x 4 or 2 wheel drive, auto trans or 5 speed ?????

I had a 1994 4 x 4 with the V6 auto transmission. I got 16/17 MPG on average. If I would have got rid of the auto lock hubs and went with manual hubs I would have bumped up to 18/19 plus MPG.

I am also easy on the gas peddle and stayed under 70 MPH

I know some people get only 12 MPG with there 2 gen 4Runner

I think I am getting good fuel economy (about 20 MPG) right now, I need a GPS to be more accurate. I have 4.10 gears and 31 x10.5 tires and the truck came with 225-75-15 tires so, I know the Speedo is off.

Mine gets almost 350 Miles per tank on straight highway driving and lucky to get 240 miles if I use a full tank driving around town only.

I hear a bad O2 sensor can screw with your fuel consumption......

So related question,

I have an '88 V6 and my manual says my tank is about 17 gallons (65 Liters) BUT the needle on my truck is on the bottom part of Empty at 15 gallons (55 Liters).

With this difference, I can drive another 60-90 Km or 36-54 miles.

I haven't been "out of gas" yet.

Has anyone got close to 17 gallons (65 liters) ?

The hubs are in the center of your front wheels. These hubs on the 90 and newer 4 wheel drive 4Runners are automatic and have a Toyota center cap on them to match the rear wheels. The auto hubs can be removed and manual ones installed. You can use hubs from an older 4Runner/pick up or a set of aftermarket hubs such as Warn.
It will take a few hours to install them and cost about $100 for the hubs.

I go close every time I fill up and past it sometimes!

Ive put in I think 68 litres at one point at the pump. Most cars have an additional couple of litres emergency for people like me.

My needle is pretty spot on though, once it gets right down on empty, a little orange light comes on. From there I know I got about 30kms to go before Im out.

Best way to test your setup is to fill up a 4lt empty milk container with fuel and drive around til she runs out!!

;)
