lifting a 2nd gen help?
okay so im trying to figure out what it takes to lift a 2nd gen 4runner. i understand you can do a body lift or just taller springs and struts or a bracket lift or even the ball joint spacers. what i dont get is what do the ball joint spacers actually do? and can they be combined with a 2 inch suspension lift to get 4 inches or so? thanks

i went with the procomp stage 2 4" lift 4 inch Lift Kit with ES3000 Shocks
for the price i think it's a good deal . i have lifted other truck's before with bodylift's and spacer's and was not happy with the perfomance . i would spent the extra money and get a full susp lift . i thought of doing this: https://www.sdtruckshop.com/detail.aspx?ID=102
with new shock's and rear spring's i kinda wish i did

im thinkin toytec 2 inch with ball joint spacers then 2 or 3 inch body lift would be the most capable and cheapest way to get 35's

My suggestion is get a real suspension. Don't bother with that junk or you should be driving a Hummer.
Throw in a good suspension to net 3-3.5" of lift, then do a 1.5" BL and call it a day. Get some spindles if you want to go big in front.
Why do you want 35's on a 2wd?

The Pro Comp and the Rough Country are similar bracket lifts, one doesn't look any better than the other.

It was late so I misread. Why are you downgrading? That will be a terrible change for a daily driver... I guarantee you will regret losing the comforts of a 4th gen in comparison.
You should save up for a locker for your 2WD, throw a real lift on it, and call it a day.
Do you have any idea how little power you will have with 35's on a 2nd gen?

None? I think you mean no power loss, not "no power" in general.
I am comparing it to a 4th gen, not compared to a stock 2nd gen... They are slugs in comparison. This is also assuming he actually does re-gear it properly.

okay i was only looking into a 2nd gen cause price.... im really debating between a 3rd gen and an 80 series land cruiser. i know going from a 4th to 3rd gen is kinda a down grade but i think it will be an upgrade for me as i can get a nice limited with leather and i can get 4wd. as for the land cruiser i dont really know how that would be a down grade as the land cruisers are pretty powerful and you get that full time 4wd and solid axles.

You are arguing my points against a 2nd gen by bring in two completely different vehicles. How is that relevant in any way?
IMO it sounds like you don't really know what you want. You have a new idea every week, none of which are ever followed through, because you are onto the next idea already. This thread is less than a day old and you are already on to two other vehicles... You are going to end up regretting your decision unless you take a more logical approach.
But what do I know...

well i really have just thought of the 2nd gen yesterday after seeing so many for under 4k on craigslist. i have however been looking at a 3rd gen for a while but hard to find under 200k miles and 4wd for under 6500 dollars. and i have been looking a LC 80 series for about a week. so im just trying to figure out what would be the most comfortable dd and capable trail rig for the weekends.
