I always used to run conventional or very occasionally semi synthetic 10w40 as my manual stated for years and years. Then, I got a job as a transmission tech at a gm dealer, where I was able to collect "top up" amounts of full synthetic 5w30 at little to no cost. So, needless to say, my cheap self switched to synthetic dexos 5w30. Winter startups (here in north Western Canada) were easier, and I didn't burn as much as before (it didn't really burn much at all before, but I did notice a decrease). I have since parked the truck and am swapping a VW TDI into it, but I would not hesitate to run a full synthetic oil again

Oil change is due anyway, so ill ask them to stick with conventional.

Could also be the reason the oil pressure is lower than before the HG was done
Synthetic may be good in below freezing places, but I tried it in my 2005 150,000 miles 4runner and got many drips. At ten years old it was drip-free. OEM tranny and V6, WP and alternator, radiator.

Didn't want to add any stop leaks, so switched back to conventional oil and the drips slowed down to a few a week.

6 months later the drips have almost stopped. I check it all the time with cardboard in the garage and circle and number the drips, so we can see new ones. Lately, there haven't been ANY! How can that be possible?

BTW. Just checked. Still some drips on conventional, but far fewer than with synthetic. Synthetic is overrated.
