gear ratio?
my 90 4 runner 2nd gen gets crappy gas mileage, Where do i find the gear ratio for the vehicle? ive go 3.0 with 5-speed with 31x10.5-15 and my speedo is off by 19 mph @ 60. (speedo says 60, radar says 50) it also has no highway power. if has decent pulling power. where do i need to start looking or is this normal.
thanks in advance

The 3.slo isn't known for its blistering highway performance so yes, to some extent, that's normal.

Fixed that for you... the 3.0 isn't known for any performance. In fact, the only thing a 3.0 does quickly is blow head gaskets.
OP, check the tag in your door and look it up that way. If you need help knowing what number and letter sequence you are looking for, let me know and I will try to help you out some.

I would say the truck should have a 4.10 from the factory and it sounds like someone installed a 4.88

How you figure that ??
4.10's to 4.88's with 31" tires and a 5spd would make the speedo be off in the opposite direction.

Maybe I misunderstood....if the trucks speedometer is showing more MPH than the truck is traveling than, the final drive is shorter than what the truck was calibrated for or tire size is not stock.
My 88 has a 4.10 from factory and a 31" tire, my spedo is right on.

Cool, I was just about to ask a question like this. I have pretty much exactly the same setup. 3.0, 5spd, 31x10.5 R15's but my speedo is showing slightly FASTER than what the speed camera/checker is showing. Something like 60mph on the speedo comes up about 55mph actual speed. The engine is doing about spot on 3k rpm in this case.
What gear ratios do you think I would have in this case?
What gear ratios could/should I have with this setup?
I would prefer more speed as opposed to more power, my engine sounds like its about it explode if I try doing anything over 75mph (3500rpms)
I do more highway driving that 4x4'ing.

If you have an electronic spedo you can buy and install a spedo calibrator. The unit is just a little box that wires between the ECU and the speed sensor. You adjust the speed to correct what the spedo reads. They cost around $50 to $100

Actually I checked this last night and my speedo aint that bad. 60kph on the speedo = about 57kph actual speed. So I am thinking I have 4.10 gear ratio which is what I want cos I dont really need more power. I guess Ill just have to live with barely being able to do 70 on the highways!!!
