EGR valve removal help
Hi guys,
I got a check engine light, did a check on the code and it came up as a 71....which is the EGR system. After reading around, people recommend to clean the EGR Valve of carbon particles.
So I decided to do so. So far I unplugged the rubber hose on top of the egr valve, unplugged the small house going to the modular filter, I unscrewed the two nuts holding the valve to the engine. I also unscrewed the two large nuts around the metal pipes that are located one at the bottom, and one on the left side.
But at this point I am stumbled, the egr valve is not budging out of position...am I doing something wrong? I'd like to take it out to clean it....
any pictures/instructions would really help!
thanks in advance!

if you got all the mounting hardware off and lines disconnected...hmmm sounds like you need a hammer...

This may sound stupid, but where is the EGR Valve located? Could someone post a picture?

thanks for the help...
i eventually got it off, there was actually one more screw all the way at the bottom connected to engine that was holdoing a black plate over the piece on the left hand side pipe which attached to the egr valve. DW40 was my best friend, lots of tugging, pushing taking it off and back on, its so tight.
Not sure why toyota designed it this way...but oh well.
thanks again everyone!

Thanks Mikes4r, even if I looked at the diagram, I don't think I could find it without a picture. You could hand me 5,000 lines of C++ code and ask me to find something and I could, but when it comes to mechanics... ugg! I'm trying hard to do all my own work when I can, but it will only go so far before it rolls into the Toyota shop.

Next time try a good penetrating oil like PB instead of WD40 might help and also let it set and work itself in for a day.

Did cleaning your EGR valve take care of your code 71? I am getting the same code so I am letting you do the trouble shooting for me. LOL I was also wondering when you took the hard line off of the bottom of the engine, did you need a new gasket when you put it back on? Did you have too do someting to reset the check eng. light? Thanks for any help you can give me. Bryan

How-to reset ECM
Pull the EFI 15 amp fuse, wait 20 sec and back in. The CEL should not be on. It may return, if so, install an in-line 10k resistor in the egr wire.
