265/70/17 translates to 31.5" x 10", which should fit height and width wise. But, it's hard to say if the 17" rim will work in place of the normal 15".

The question is, why do you want to go from a 15" rim to a 17" rim? If this is a street queen and you like the look of a larger rim better, then fine. However, if it's for trail use, stay with the smaller rim. More rubber and less metal on the wheels is absolutely better for off-road performance, especially handling rocks. (Look at the rim to tire ratio on your local earthmover for a good example of what serious off-road tires vs. rims should look like.)

Agreed. Not to mention much cheaper for 15" tires.

I think the tire & wheel setup you have is perfect on your rig. jmho

Honestly the stock wheels are pretty badass on their own. Toyota even used specific lug nuts on a lot of their vehicles to ensure the wheels wouldn't sit uneven

how big of a tire can i fit on my 2nd gen?

I've ran BFG 32X11.50 KM2's (mud terrains) for years now. Stock height. Only had to trim the from valance like 1/2-1".

I had this size on a 91 pickup with grabber at2s and fj steelies, worked well, rubbed the mudflap but never enough to bother me.

As for the 33x10.5 OP, I ran that size on BJ spacers, stock rims and the torsion fully dropped then just a touch put back on it. No mudflaps and never rubbed the body or stock bumper (just the inner fender plastic on the cab side that took very minor trimming) However, I did notice some rub marks on the inner tires from running lower PSI where contact was made at some point with the upper A-arm. Solved with 1/4" slip over wheel spacers.

Did you regear to match the 33s? I have almost the exact same runner as you (blue decals) and am also looking into 33" KO2s on the stock SR5 wheels.

I've had those exact tires on my '94 for about the past 6 years, and they work fine. Stock suspension, no rubbing. I didn't regear, and haven't noticed all that much difference in performance. It was anemic before, still is :-)

I have 33x10.5s on stock rims. 4:56 gears and a 5 speed. I have never felt like I needed to re-gear.

Since the 3.0s are so anemic I wanted a light weight tire. My current Dick Cepeks are 2 lbs lighter than a K02 and 7 lbs lighter that a KM3(according to tire rack). I know it doesn’t seem like a lot but I really think it makes a difference.
