I may hold the 3ZVE record: 356,911 miles with no rebuild. Head gasket was done once in 1991 for the recall. Engine is in an 89 4runner.
I check coolant levels daily, I run toyota red (and/or Zerex Asian Formula) with a bottle of the Subaru dealership coolant conditioner (which is really a mild holts stop leak).
Change the oil every 5,000 or so, just standard 10w-30, no high mileage formula or anything. I'd change the oil sooner but in 5,000 miles it gets around 3 quarts of additional oil due to consumption. It's not coming out the tail pipe so it doesn't bother me haha.
I have my fingers crossed.

342000 miles, 99 SR5, had it since new in 2000.
Did the head gasket during a recall, Fuel pump replacement, recently replaced ball joints. Back 10 or so years would not go in 4WD. Some $600 valve had to be replaced.
Keep up on the maintance like clockwork. Including changing out timing belts.
Still running strong and have no problem driving it the 300 mile round trip to Phoenix.
which begs the question. What typically goes first in the catastrophic area??
Well, in my case the starter. Then it sat for two years, and the serpentine belt mysteriously dissapeared (probably got cooked off, I live in a desert)

I can't claim the trophy for this one, since these were mostly from the previous owner...
Previous owner "rebuilt" original engine around 420K. Still ran but burned oil.
I picked it up around 437K summer 2015, then that blew a gasket last summer (2016) around 446K
Now I've got Jim Putney's Stage 2 with about 1000 miles.
Barely broken in.
Truck drives great.

Just hit 300,000 miles on the 92 4runner. 3.0 Manual trans.
Head gasket done during recall, other than that, just regular maintenance. Runs really well still! Everything is tight, drives nice. Parts of front susp and steering redone.
I just picked up a 1990 3.sl0w about three weeks ago. I am in love with it. pretty much done doing maintenance last owner never did. Have no clue history of truck but runs like a damn champ. Just hit 190,000 yesterday. Hope fully another 200,000 to go
