rear driveshaft issues.....Big issues

So my rear end has been vibrating away. Took the time to figure out. Thought that it could be a u joint but it wasn't I was the driveshaft spline...Its worn so bad that you can wiggle the driveshaft up and down. Something tells me it didnt come from the factory that way...Anyways...Where do I get a new driveshaft, can it be rebuilt, does anybody in BC have another one I could buy, Is there aftermarket tougher offroading shafts. If I could get answers to any of these that would be great...

Not to totally thread jack, but figure its kinda on topic of driveshaft issues.

Apparently while watching a YouTube on a possible solution to my vibration problem, I picked up on something. I noticed that my drive shaft is installed in the reverse position to that of the 4runner in the video I was watching. The end with the splines(smaller in diameter end) is actually bolted up to the rear 3rd member and the larger diameter end is up at the transfer case. I have a 22re if that makes a difference.

So do I have these d-shaft ends labeled correctly?

If so, that really sucks that someone would mess THAT up.

So does that mean that they are installed two ways because I've seen two other 4runners now that have had the slip yokes up at the transfer case?

I've also seen Toyota documentation of slip yokes being on different sides based on transmission type--manual or auto.

no , there is only 1 WAY .. it's a safty issue that toyota has addressed and this is why is done that way ..

if the shaft comes apart at speed the shaft is supost to "flop" from the tranny .. if it's the other way around , you could end up "launching" the truck , like a pole vaulter , causing major damage or loss of life ..

there are NO questions here !!!

Ok, that makes a lot of sense. Still there seems to be some installed with yoke forwards.

See the dude in this video.

YouTube - DIY (partial): Rear companion flange removal to replace companion flange oil seal

And here's the diagram from Toyota I mentioned.

Also I looked under a friends 4runner here at work and same orientation of the rear drive shaft. He said he's never messed with his.

yeah .. I see that .. Back when I was at the dealership , this is what I was told , and i just always thought it was right .

I also had a look at a few different modles on the toyota EPC , and there seem to be no rhyme nor reason . They all seem to be different .
so I dont know if it`s right or wrong? ... I guess it just depends on the model ?

I stand corrected .. there is a question here !!!

Im actually another toyota Guy here...work in the shop as the oil change guy for 2 years...Bloody place decided after two years they didnt want to have an apprentice and gave up on the whole thing. Promised me an apprenticeship for two years and nothing...That aside, I learned alot when I was there...Every 4runner including the 5th Gen had the slip yoke at the front...I dont even remember seeing a single truck with it the other way around either...always at the front. So yes weird situation...I Figured out the driveshaft issue...I needed a new driveshaft...Last guy who owned it didnt grease the slip yoke...It wore out pretty badly and that was what was causing all the issues...Had a buddy with a parts 4runner...guess which way the driveshaft was...So I grabbed the driveshaft off of his truck over christmas Break...Carried it on the ferry to Vancouver and off to school in Kelowna...Next morning I put it on the truck (-8 outside) and drove to school for the test drive...No issues. Pretty excited to be back on the road with no buzzing.
