Popping grinding sometimes squealing noise in rrear end

Hey guys i have a problem with my 95 runner 4wheel drive auto. For awhile my suv was making a popping noise from the rear it was almost righ inthe middle it sounded like. I didn't do anything about it because it wouldn't do it all the time. Then after awhile it started getting worse. And popping more often then now it is popping really bad and it sounds like something almost tearing in the back almost like hitting two bricks together. I bought some gear oil and put it in the diff. It was completely dry. So i filled it up and now its still doing it worse then ever. When i took it for a drive to see if it helped. Along with the popping and grinding and everything it almost sounded like a squeal a couple times? I know i did not describe it the best but it is really hard to explain it sounds like nothing i've ever heard before! Thanks in advance!!!

Hmm, if you've been driving it for a while with no oil your diff is probably toast. Bearings are shot probably for starters, no idea what the pinion and ring gear would look like. To put it bluntly, it could be expensive.

No not necessarily. If you have the mechanical ability remove the inspection plate and take a look inside to see what is needed. You may also have to pull the axils once inside.
If you do not have the mechanical ability then you need to take it to a mechanic to check it out which I would guess would cost around a hundred dollars, but I would not drive it. Have it towed. They can give you an estimate and you can go from there.

first off you should put your location in your name you may live near someone who can help you, and yes SAVED said is true check it out first then shell out the money sometimes shops want more money to fix your rear axle then its worth you can get one from a junkyard for about 200-300 dollars but it is a gamble.
