Bad Transmission

My transmission is making a grinding whining noise and wont go anywhere. I know its a dumb question but is the whole tranny gone or is there any salvaging it?

It can be rebuilt as long as the case is good. If there are hard part's that are broken it's cheaper to buy a remanufactured one. Or go to your local junk yard and get one for cheap until you have the money for a rebuilt one.

No way to tell without inspecting it and to do it right it has to be removed, but most likely it can be rebuilt unless the case is damaged. I had one done last year on a 92 that was doing what you discribed after 254,000 mile on it and both the transfer case and the tranny are one and both are rebuilt. It cost me about 2500.00.00.

Hard to say without knowing more, like is it an auto or manual?
