ahhh...what the heck is this?

So I prolly shouldn’t be admitting this but on and off since 2002 I’ve been trying to figure out what this little door, up by the sunroof switch, in my 1994 4Runner is for. A succession of Toyota dealers has been useless, so I’m asking y’all.

My best guess is the rubber band retains an “L” shaped screwdriver used to close the sunroof if the sunroof motor died. There is a hole in the roof and you can see a bolt with a straight screwdriver slot in it.

A dealer in Clinton N.J. actually found an L shaped screwdriver, looks like it would work, but it is too big to fit in the space. I gotta disconnect my battery to replace a modulator an’ I’ll try it then.

Anyone…anyone?

I would also assume (not being a 2nd gen owner) that it's to cover up the access hole to the manual close for the sunroof. My Jetta has a door similar to that for that purpose.

I would think that there would be a little wrench up there for it as well.

Business cards don't quite fit, it fits my ID perfectly.
Of coarse the only time I put my ID there, I promptly forgot and was in panic the next day.

THAT is EXACTLY what it is supose to be for .. It's a sunglasses holder .. instead of "clipping" them off of your visor
