Undercoating

So I know there are some other threads that address the topic of undercoating, however most seem to be about newer models of T4Rs.

I have a 1994 4Runner 4WD and am interested in undercoating the wheel wells (for protective and aesthetic purposes) as well as the skid plate and some other rust-apparent areas underneath the vehicle. I've heard that rubberized undercoating can be problematic over time as it may eventually trap moisture in. I've also heard that oil-based seems to be the best bet, but does anyone have any personal experience with this process or know of any specific products I can check out for this? Thanks

A trick I read on another forum is to put some used oil in a spray bottle then take the truck out to a dirt road and spray it down and go for a drive. Not the most eco friendly but effective and free.

In regard to the semi-gloss question, I would just do a google image search of "semi-gloss black" and check out some of the cars with it...looks pretty slick on some cars, if you like more of the matte finish.

Back to the POR-15....this sounds like the stuff I need. However, do I need to buy the Marine Clean and Metal Ready for the prep? Or is this just a ploy to get me to buy more of their stuff? I was planning on using my grinder with proper head to remove the loose stuff.

No get it. But a little goes a long way!!! If that stuff gets on your skin (the por15) it takes about 3 weeks for it to come off.. LOL

I'm planning on getting the POR-15...but are you saying I should get the Marine Clean and Metal Ready too?
