brakes locked up- help

the other day I was coming off the freeway to a red light, there was a light rain, roads were a little wet. started to brake ( I was not going over 30 mph at this point ) as I started to slow down (doing about 10 mph ) the front wheels locked up and I slid a little sideways, released the brakes and reapplied, locked up again, it felt like the brakes got to a certain point then got hard. I managed to not slide into the intersection. but am concerned about braking on wet roads. luckily there were no cars in front of me. And no I did not slam on the brakes. I am an experienced driver from the old school of no ABS days, so I know how to maneuver on slippery surfaces, ( brake- turn into skid- release. ) any one have any suggestions.

I just got this rig about 2 weeks ago so I am still shutting off lights. at this point they are all off except rear ABS.

Have you checked/replaced the front and rear brakes? pads/rotors/drums/shoes/etc.

I have read this alot on fourms with the 2nd gens. I have heard anthing from grimy brake fluid, bad rubber lines, bad calipers, bad master cylinder, and a crumy ABS modudle. In every case it has been something differnet that fixed the problem.

hey bro, im having he same damn problem i just replaced my brakes and my front passenger brake caliper and it didnt do **** still acts like it is catchin on something also since i put new brakes on it i can smell it burning the new brakes bad. Also the check engine light is on but its saying EGR tho(paperclip trick) So i bleed the brakes to, didnt do anything, the master cylinder looks like it has been replaced before tho, because its new and shiny. i have had my toyota for 2 months. and it hasnt been nothing but a piece of ****. anyways where is that abs sensor thing... the brake problem is coming from the front i know that much... next time im going to let them lock up after driving and then jack it up and spin the wheels which seem to be like they locking up. any tricks or secretes i should know please let me know!!

edit!!!
also the brakes work fine till after about 20 minutes of driving then brakes get hot then they seem to lock up

ill be sure to check that abs sensor thing tomorrow and get a 10mm to try and check it. thing is idk if theyll let me off duty tomorrow to go fix my truck. because im leaving tuesday. and my ass aint going anywhere with those ****ed up breaks! i replaced the front brakes and calipers and its still locking up. but not as bad as before and also the new smell of burning brakes is insane : /. the paper clip check is check the lil grey box that has diagnose on it behind the battery thing and stick it in TE and TE1 and your check engine light will start flashing and u can get the codes here online!
