Spare Tire carrier options? Gen2

Does anyone have any experience/recommendations with hitch mounted spare tire carriers? My underside was rusted to the point where I had to use bolt cutters and cut the cable just to get to the tire and inspect it. I was considering a mounted (bumper) tire carrier but I get the impression that they require bodywork to the vehicle. I've seen a few trailer hitch tire carriers out there for less than $100. Any thoughts anyone?

Mine is rusted up good as well. I understand a new mechanism from the dealer for hanging your tire underneith is around $25. I plan on replacing mine.

I was considering putting it back underneath but I feel like the issue is just gonna come back. I think I'll look for a used hitch mount. Thanks all.

Crap. I just found one online. $100-120. That is steep for a poorly designed unit that rusted out anyway.

Hitch mount looks better and better, but I can't picture my lovely wife manhandling the tire up and down to use the tailgate.

do you have access to a welder and square tubing ? You can easily fabricate a rear hitch mount that holds the tire horizontally instead of vertically then you dont have to worry about constantly moving the tire back and forth to use the rear tailgate.
