10w-40 oil and Purolator filter for '90 4Runner?

so ive got the 1990 4Runner V6 4WD with 182K mi.
ever since i got this T4R about 2 years ago ive given it 10w-30 quaker state and what ive learned unfortunately to be a terrible filter. ive always used a little too much oil and had a little too low oil pressure. my friend suggested i switch to 10w-40 and that should help with pressure and less oil usage. i just made the switch a couple days ago and can barely tell much difference. so now ive got Pennzoil High Mi 10w-40 and Purolator filter. any thoughts?

the oil filter need to have a check valve in it i believe that the purilator does not have a check valve use Toyota OEM filters to solve this problem.
