Antenna Relay

Has anyone sourced an antenna relay? I have one where the antenna motor continues to run for 15-20 seconds after the antenna is fully extended. The motor shuts off properly when it retracts, but not when it extends.

There's a power antenna relay on the inside of the firewall behind the brake pedal. Based on when the relay clicks off, I'm guessing this is the culprit, but I haven't found a source for one yet.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Help with Limited

I have a 2000 4runner limited. I need to replace the antenna. Does anyone know the extra steps needed to remove the wheel fender flares? I removed all the bolts and it will not budge.

Thanks!

Rice Rocket, were you able to get the plugs out? Mine will not budge and are breaking apart. I might just rip them out and buy new ones.

I had the same problem.. I broke a few of them and others came out fine. Once I got some of them out I saw how they worked but they are still a pain to deal with. Id just rip them out and get some new ones, it will save time :-)

This is what mine is doing. Retract is fine and it shuts off right away. Extending it keeps going after the antenna is fully extended and GRINDS GRINDS GRINDS as the teeth are slipping over each other. Sounds horrible. Does it for about 10 seconds.

My first thought was the plastic tooth line was too long but I remember it being exactly the same length as the stock one I took out (wasn't broken inside...just the mast got bent/broken from a branch). If I trim it and it then the motor can't grab it to retract it then I have to buy another antenna and still don't have the problem fixed.

Anyone figured out how to deal with this?

I also can hear the clicks from relays? down by my left foot...

I'm gonna go disconnect the power to the antenna tomorrow morning (wait...it is morning so I'll do it in about 9 hours when I get up )

Thanks..

This is a great post....the only trouble i had was getting the "chrome" trim back on....It didn't quite go as planned. I can't figure out how the snap works on the one closest to the front of the truck...99 t4r sr5.

seems like you guys went threw a LOT of hassle to me ..

I hate to break this to ya .. BUT those antennas can be replaced way easier then that .

The 1 piece antenna , and cable ... can be wound in .. right at the source ...

you need to remove the top nut as pictured in the first post .. but then you simply turn on the radio .. the antenna will wind out .
Then simply push in the new cable , and turn OFF the radio .. making sure the teeth are facing the correct direction .. it will wind it back in .

put the top nut back on .. done deal .

geeezzzz.

.

nice post .

not if you have broken pieces of the mast still in the motor. The directions off of antennamastsrus.com say to remove the motor if the old mast isn't the same size as the new mast to get the broken pieces out.

I think i'll be removing the motor and taking a look since I know my mast broke off.

the many I have done were all broken ..

removing the top nut and turning it ON .. will push the old antenna out .

just try it .. if it dont work , you have to pull out the motor anyway . I'll lay MONEY on it .

absitivily .. post up your results .

just a little tip .. best to have someone sitting in the drivers seat .. to turn on the power , then once the nut is off , have them push the radio button to enguage the antenna . MAKE sure you see which way the teeth on the cable are facing (should be towards the windshield) ........ then push the new cable in till it stops , and have your friend turn off the radio .. you'll have to be carefull to follow the cable in and then the mast all in one motion , like threading a needle . but on the nut , and viola , your done ..

should take about 2 mins .
