Rear Window Wont Roll Down

I don't know what could be causing the problem. Within thirty seconds I rolled the window up with me key and hopped in and cranked up the truck. I pushed my button to roll the window down and nothing is happening. The key wont even roll it down. There is no noise, so I am certain it cant be mechanical. I dont know what could have gone wrong within thirty seconds but now I have no access to the back of my truck except crawling in from the front. Anybody have similar problems or know what I can do to fix this issue?

i happen to be a guru when it comes to testing and diagnosing the rear window. but before we go any farther.. try taking off the rear wiper (one 10mm nut) and then turn the rear wiper on for 5-10 seconds and then turn it back off (do this with the car running and window all the way up). now try to roll down your window... the most common cause for rear window failure is that the wiper does not go ALL the way up and there is a sensor switch that locks out the rear window to prevent you from rolling it down (but not up)

hope this helps! if not let me know and we'll go to step two.

does it buzz three times or beep three times? the fuse isn't the problem if it's buzzing (cuz it obviously has power)... if your wiper does not work it most likely needs to be reset. there is a control function that resets the rear wiper/window assembly. i will reference my books for proper steps and report back. i believe the procedure can be found if you google it. i do know that unless your rear window is rolled ALL the way up to where it disengages\ the cut out switch, the wipers will not work and they will beep three times.. is this your situation?

I just tried what you requested and that didnt work. I know its not the fuse cause that also powers the driver and passenger window. Whats step two?

take the panel off the tale gate, and using a 12v power source and alligator clips try to jump the motor out manually at the plug coming directly off of it. if theres nothing switch the battery around and check it again. if nothing happens then your motor is shot, if it works then it's either one of the saftey switches that are back there (you'll see what i'm talking about, do a continuity test with a ohm meter to check each one) or its the number 3 relay on your control board located in your side panel just under your drivers side tail light. google the problem a little, there's tooooonns of info on things to do to test window units. also try googling "4runner rear window cheap tricks) there is a website called cheap tricks that has all kinds of DIY info for rebuilding control units and motors.

i almost forgot to ask, can you roll it down using the key in the tailgate?

it beeps 3 times, and my wiper does not work, so i guess i need to take the panel off the inside and check for power, do you happen to know where the control panel is for the rear wiper/ window

Had this happen to me once. The key cylinder on the tail gate didn`t come back all the way and stayed in the down position. Put the key in the cylinder and gave it a wiggle to center and it worked fine. Later lubed the cylinder and has worked fine for years. Otherwise your into removing the tail gate panel.

Sorry, i havnt been able to do anything for a week! busy. anyways, to answer your question, no. the key does not roll the window down, and the light for the switch isnt on. the light worked all the way up until the window stopped working.

Mine is very similar, i can roll the window down with direct power to the motor, i can even roll the window up with the Key and the Switch but not down, when i test for voltage at the connector for the motor i get 12 volts to the left but 0 to the right which is down, we have the key cylinder hanging out of the tailgate right now so it could be upside down, but either way i can roll the window up but not down. i have tried 3 different relay modules.... i can hear it click when trying to roll the window down, my window wiper doesn't work, fronts do but not the rear.

the switch that trips that light is gravity switch in the tailgate the window wont move when the tailgate is down because of this switch.

get a new one from the dealer to fix that problem.
