When I bought my 1994, it came with a remote starter and loads of strange electrical problems (lots of intermittent working switches and such). Weird thing about the remote start was that you could not start the vehicle just with the key, you had to use the remote start always and then insert the key and turn it to the on position, otherwise hitting the brake would kill the engine. So, I thought it was weird, but was learning to live with it. Then, the ignition switch seemed like it wouldn't always hitting the on position. Not sure how to describe it, but it basically resulted in killing the engine 20 times just to get the thing into gear.
So, I figured I had a problem with either the ignition switch or lock cylinder. My replacement came today, along with a new column switch since my wipers and pumps were working intermittently. Just disassembled the steering column and plugged the new column switch it to check if it was working. And voila! the ignition is now working fine and I can all of a sudden start the vehicle with just the key and not use the remote start.
I am at a total loss on how this happened. Are the ignition and the column switch's functions somehow tied into together? If someone with some electrical experience has an explanation I would love to hear it, as I am completely new to this stuff and its an on going learning process
Right now I am glad its all working, but am wondering if its just a fluke? Also, I now have a $50 used ignition switch and lock cylinder (with its key) assembly if anyone is interested... Thanks!
