1992 4runner Engine swap

Here is situation:

My loyal 3.0L has died at the wonderful age of 275k miles. I can fix the problem for little over $2,000. I'm curious what other engines will fit. I know I can jump up to a 3.4L for a little over $7,000. What diesel kits are out there how expensive are they and how hard is it really to switch to diesel?

Thanks in advance

Todd

Im assuming with those prices that your not going to be the one doing the work. Ive seen them done for alot cheaper than that. My 3.0 swap was pretty much free.

Diesel is going to be more than the other two. These guys do diesel conversions on Toyotas using half cuts from japan.

Good Luck!

A diesel 4runner, who would have thunk. But the biodiesel option is quite fascinating.

Put in a 3.4 with the computer from another 4runner. It's probably the most common swap on earth as per 4runners. There are supposed to be some guys in Denver who sell most of the stuff you need. And you could probably have a blown 3.4 longblock rebuilt for about 3K.

I'd get a 3.4 and have it rebuilt as a long block and then install it along with the newer comupter and wiring harness. There's tons of info on it all here.

I would go with the 3.4 swap or maybe even the 22RE swap.

They would both require about the same amount of work, so why go down in power.

Didn't someone put a Chevy V8 in their 1st or 2nd Generation 4Runner?

I've seen a Corvette LS1 motor in a 2nd Generation RX7.

And there's a Corvette LS1 motor in a old 260zx or 280zx...so I don't see why you can't put one in the 4Runner.

I've seen 350 small blocks, toyota 3.4 v6, chevy 4.3 v6, toyota supra swaps, Lexus (toyota) 1UZ swaps. I'm in the process of piecing together a 1UZ/5spd swap for my 90 3.0 auto.
