Info needed again

Alright so I have turned to this site before for info and insight. 1994 4runner, 4x4, 3.0, 5 speed

This is what I want to do:

I want to run 5.29 gears with a locker in the rear.
I want to do a straight axle swap in the front, run 5.29 gears and a locker

Questions
Can I run 5.29 with 33's? (Plan on going with 35's or 36's later)
Are the stock axles strong enough?
Should I run regular lockers or air actuated?
What can I expect to see out of the speedo with 33's with 5.29?
Are there kits for the straight axle for a 4runner that already has a suspension lft, or do I have to do another one?

Where can I...
Find the third member with the 5.29 gears and locker?
Find a aftermarket straight axle with the gears and lockers already installed?
Find a conversion kit?

If you have found a part that I am looking for, if you could send me the link that would be awesome. I know this is an expensive upgrade, but its something I am planning on doing in the next 2 or 3 years when its no longer a daily driver.

You just asked a ton of questions that people will have a ton of different answers for, but here is my .02

Yes, but you will be reving a little high on the interstate.

For 33s? Yes, may you some day break a birfield? possibly. 36s? Are you heavy on the skinny peddle? Locker in the front? 35s are usually the biggest you want to go on a locked stock front end, but go for it and if you snap a shaft, upgrade. Upgraded shafts run about 600 bucks. Also might want to look into a truss and nuckle gussets.

Also depends on you. You plan on daily driving this thing? any snow driving? Lockers on paved snowy roads are bad news, but doable. Front selectable on tight trails is bice to beable to turn sharper with less binding, but many run them with no issues, again, locked front on a snow road is not too safe. A selectable will run you about 800 while a regular is about 300....or you could weld the rear for free (essentially making it a spool)

Trailgear, Sky Mfg, All Pro. Most have an option to choose lift height, but bigger isnt always better Its important to have a low center of gravity. But that also depends on the type of trails you run.

Trail gear. I hope you have deep pockets. Watch craigslist and classifieds on local clubs for deals.

Start reading alot. There are alot of different ways and budgets for what you want to do. Check out Pirate4x4 in the Toyota forum. Read but DONT post, people are not as newb friendly there.

Good luck.

So what exactly does a spool third member mean?
Can I run a locked 5.29 in the rear and leave the front open and stock?

A spool doesnt allow for any slipping or ratcheting in the corners. So its 100% power to each wheel all the time.

I have a spool in the rear of my 92. Love it. Heres a pic of the spool installed in the 3rd. There are more pics in my build thread.

And it replaces this, factory v6 carrier (4cly diffs are a little simpler, but do the same thing). A locker goes inside the carrier to replace the spider gears.

As for a locker in the front, you can do whatever you want. There really arent any rules. Just build the truck for the type of trails you run, and upgrade as needed.

is it going to be a daily driver? if it is I'd stay away from a spool..ask someone to drive a car or truck with a spool locker in it first because it may be cool at first but after a while it gets annoying...

Your rear tires will wear faster. Makes turning on pavement in tight parking lots a little hard. Not good on snowy highways. But mostly tire wear. If its going to see pavement, get a locker, not a spool.

You could run a selectable locker.Toyota made a electronic locker found in later year pickups pickup and swap it in. They can be found on CL, junkyards and ebay etc.

Also, the front diff out of a FZJ80 (Land Cruiser) Is is an 8"diff and will fit into the front front housing of a mini truck axle. And its a high pinion.

And setting up differentials can be tricky. Read here. Surf that site a bit too, lots of good information on there.

Sounds discouraging lol. Sounds like I should just wait and get air actuated lockers front and rear. Then I can run it on street and off

Ratcheting lockers are fine for the street. Such as an Aussie or powertrax, and they are dar less expensive than the ARBs. But if your willing to spend the money on ARBs do it, you wont be disappointed.
