4x front wheel hubs

a couple of years ago I ran across a California forum "I hate Mud" which was full of arrogant, crazy obnoxious postings. I got the gist that one should repack the front wheel bearings if you drive in water above them. I was wondering about repacking the bearings since my 4runner has 160,000 miles. I am not the original owner, either. Any erudite thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

Yes, there is quite a bit of dis-assembly involved to be able to do it properly.
And checking/draining the diff is a good thing to do at the same time.
