I've found FedEx to be better on price for the larger boxes I've sent.
A hood isn't that heavy, so it will be a dimensional thing.
Go to a furniture store. They have BIG boxes. Get one for an entertainment center, or a dining table. That should be big enough. You can always cut it down if it is too big.
Layer it up with styrofoam ( like the furniture came with ) and send it on it's way...insured of course
