I know and I sympathize but I'm pretty convinced that will never be a rule. For one thing it means they have to come back and check up on it later which isn't practical. Best case is they see you, know you aren't a noob and give a courtesy warning.

That's why I'm trying to suggest actions that are practical like a 3 strikes rule and a required comment prior to deletion (which is really a hide and archive function).

basically it comes down to laziness... on both sides, but like a teacher and students, the students can get away with it, teachers cant, its their job, they chose it, they need to deal with it or quit. same with mods, do your job and put forth the effort, go out of your way to be "better" than the rest. mods should be the ones who know the rules, and know whats right and wrong more than anyone else, they should lead by example. if "you"(as a mod) can not understand that or work with that, then you should step down . there are several members here who are willing to step up and help out and be mods and do the right thing and at least try to make a change...

But what they could do (and this could be a rule for mods) is require that mods:
Comment in the thread before deleting it "thread deleted by mod_name"
Then as a separate action delete the thread.

This way the OP will get an email with what happened and he can see who to contact.

Its simple and it will reduce the serious anger around this situation.

Also as I already stated before, mods could institute a simple 3 strikes rule for the classified section. Only kick / delete threads that violate more than 2 rules.

BTW I see no one is responding directly to me so I assume I must have pissed you off somehow. I will continue to express my thoughts in this thread until you have a change of heart. I believe these are good suggestions and mods should consider them.

I like this idea. I have personally PM"d dozens of members asking them to change stuff prior to deleting classified threads, but I'm also a college student with a lot of free time and time in front of the computer and I don't think everyone has that luxury. I think its easier to send a PM than it is to delete a thread, watch the OP be upset, PM them saying it was deleted, undelete the thread, etc. Maybe it makes more sense to lock the threads instead of deleting them? That way they can be seen still?

WTF is so hard about following a few simple rules??

If people just took a few seconds to follow them instead of being too lazy, we wouldn't need to waste time with this thread, with people whining, or having to police the Classifieds.

This is really true. The rules are REALLY easy to follow, people just don't take the time to do it - I've been advocating for a "form" which makes you comply for a while.

the problem comes when you inplace the ruels... i for one have been a member here for several years and have over 5000 posts, until last year i had not ever posted anything in the classifieds section so i did not know of the separate rules for just that section... i had never been in there for anything other than to brouse. had never posted anything so i didnt know there was rules(again never posted in there). i will admit i messed up and i was ignorant of the rules my post was "wrong" but the mods did not have to delete the thread. -that is equally (if not more so) lazy to do. it was not malicious or ment to be a "F U" to the rules, it was an honest mistake that i made unknowingly. and im sure most others are the exsact same way. really how many of the posts in the classified section are in violation? what percentage? if you are saying its too many to deal with then it sounds to me like you need to do one of two things, maybe both;
1 get more mods.
2 make the rules a bit more obvious, you have the ability to change the lay out of things and add things to the main pages...

you guys need to do everything in your power before you come out and start pointing the fingers at the members -that is laziness.

i am a mod on another 4x4 site, and these issue never come up. if someone is out of line or they make and infraction we ALWAYS notify them about it before taking any action, and give them a chance to wright their wrong/correct there mistake. blaming others is childish and pathetic and a poor excuse for incompetence

why is it so hard for you as a mod to accept that and work with people. thats your job as a mod, not to be grouch with an axe and chop threads like firewood. sorry we are a few members here who actually care and care enough to step up to the plate and voice our concerns -afterall it was a mod who started this whole topic, so dont come here telling us to basically get bent and deal with it. you guys asked, we are responding and trying to give input and constructive criticisms, only because we care. if we didnt care we wouldnt be "fighting" for this. and sadly there is only a few of us who are willing to speak out.

for me this is not about my old post -that ship has sailed and whats done is done, it was a learning experience for me. i am here now because this is an ongoing issue and no one is doing anything about it other than complaining and watching as it continues to happen. all of us are sick of it but only the mods and admin have the power to do anything about it. im not saying you guys are not doing anything about it, but from our(the members) point of view, no you are not, because we can not see it, and perception is reality -its just the way it is right or wrong. i am here to help find a solution to the problem. several members here have suggested solutions, but all the mods seam to want to do is "na say" them and tell us how thats impractical and wont work. what we are not seeing is any mods coming up with ideas on how to improve things. and i think that speaks volumes. you have to be the change you want to see in the world, and if no one is willing to change, nothing will change.

I think if that was truly the case, there wouldn't be nearly a many threads in noncompliance. also not as many being started asking "where is my thread?" or "why was it deleted?"

I think there are just TOO many rules, and it is too strict.
also possibly not enough mods.

I think there are a few mods that are taking this classified section personally.
the members have spoken up in this thread, but the mods are saying, "I want it my way". they arent listening, or don't care.

Well I managed to follow the rules but I still think they are overkill. Do you really need that many rules?

BTW why is it so many peeps here are always bashing the government for all its "rules and regulations" yet have no problem imposing endless lists of rules on the people/members trying to use this site.
