Paypal fees

why is it not a rule on this site to not ask buyers to pay paypal fees? i've been on many other forums and this rule always applied. fees are part of doing business so if seller doesn't want to pay this fee, simply raise the price appropriately. i would think most would be opposed to a vendor who asks their buyers to pay paypal fees on their purchases...

I am not a mod on this site, but it is my opinion we already have too many "rules" in regards to the buy/sell section here.

I expect though, that since this site is only a way to connect sellers with buyers, that they hold no liability towards how that transaction is completed, since that is done completely outside of this site.

also, its my opinion that those types of details should be only between the buyer and seller. if someone suggest that you as the purchaser must also cover the fees, its up to you to make a choice whether you want to continue with the transaction, or not. or at the least, take some control of the situation, and talk to them about the fees about whether it is negotiable or not.

lastly, if you run the transaction through paypal as a gift/family, there are no fees. this then, becomes a non-issue.

Until the buyer has an issue with the product. If it passes through Paypal as friends/family, you're out of luck. If it passes through as Goods, then Paypal will be much more willing to work with you on obtaining a refund.

yes. that is a good reason right there, for the buyer to pay the fee.

this site has the least amount of rules that i've seen in terms of buying/selling, which is nice in some regards.

paypal fees are like any other fees on sales transactions. i don't go to my local ace hardware and expect to negotiate fees when i want to pay with my credit card. as a seller, you chose whether or not to accept paypal payments. while annoying that you'll lose a few bucks because of it, you pay for it as it's convenient (as mentioned, up your price a buck or two to cover for it). i see this as a common sales transaction but can definitely see your point and benefit to transfer those fees to the buyer. i just hope businesses don't start thinking like that.

Self-negotiate the fees with the seller/buyer. Simple enough. If both parties cannot come to an agreement, then don't continue the transaction.

The grocery store doesn't ask you to pay their CC fees independently of the price of the goods they're selling; just a cost of doing business. Same for sellers here. If you want it sold badly enough and have the protections paypal offers, you'll pay the fees or compensate with the price.

No need for more nanny-rules. You're an adult, figure it out.

Motorcycle dealers around here already think like that. Went in to pay cash for a bike, they wanted to charge me a Doc fee, assembly fee, advertising fee, etc even though I was going to register and title the bike myself. Car dealers can be just as bad.

Most of those fees are just the cost of doing business; Especially the advertising fee. Apple doesn't surcharge me a percentage for buying a $5k workstation on my credit card, charge a delivery fee, an advertising fee, unboxing fee, convenience charge, find-my-mac/iphone registration fee (dealer vin registration fee), etc.

As long as people roll over and pay this nonsense, dealers will expect it.

seems like an odd request. Someone is paying fees either way. What's the difference? Plenty of sellers / forums allow those to add $ to cover fees. This way a well trusted buyer or seller can send as gift, cash or what have you and save some money.
