I think noted by the vehicle this forum specifies in that we can easily see everyone's choice from that list.

The Montero Sport is a chick SUV. My friend had one in high school and he got made fun of till he sold it. The Honda Passport is not bad, but not very aggressive. The Nissan isn't bad and are dependable, but look bleh to me.

I'm not sure if you are going for an all around review, dependability, looks, wheeling ability or power. That changes things up a bit, but typically the 4runner will win.

We're all biased to the 4Runner but here is my take.

The Rodeo/Passport from what I've heard and seen is that they are not so reliable, specifically when they put in the updated 3.2 V6 in 1998 I believe. I heard that they have Dana 44 rear axles with disc brakes in the rear though.

The 2nd Gen Pathfinder is unibody. I heard the engine and drivetrain is fairly bulletproof but the 3.3 V6 was slow. They updated with a 3.5 V6 in ~1999 and I heard it performed really well.

The Montero Sport I kinda dig. I always thought the one from 97-99 (pre facelift) looked mean. I hear the Mitsubishi V6's are known to burn oil but they have really strong drivetrains.

The 4Runner will always be my favorite though. Really reliable engines and bulletproof drivetrains and they perform really well on and off road. That and I think they look the coolest.
