I am afraid that I have to disagree here...
I went to Larry Miller Toyota over the weekend to buy a new Sequoia.
The salesman was pretty much your typical car salesman. I asked how much the car was, and he pointed to the sticker, just over $51k. Then I asked how much they would actaully sell it for, he pointed to the sticker again, I thanked him for his time and proceeded to leave.
He stopped me, and asked what I was looking for and what I was looking to pay.
I told him exactly what I wanted, 2006 Sequoia Limited 4x4 w/ navigation. He said he would check their comptuer and see what they have. As it turns out, they had something close to what I wanted, a little overequipped, but that was fine. I said this would be a cash deal, and wanted their best price.
He goes to the tower, and comes back like 15 minutes later and says that the best they can do was like $49k.
The whole time he didn't say anything about the $2000 rebate. I said I wasn't going to pay that, and then he sends out the "manager" who was probably just another car salesman.
I told them I would get the same (more or less) vehicle at Avondale Toyota for $46,500 (I'll write a review of them next)
They had to talk to someone else, to get approval. I called my fiance and told her to come down and check it out. We checked it out, but due to a time constraint we had to go. I left a $30,000 deposit at the dealer and said I would be back in a few hours.
I come back to the dealer some hours later, and start everything back up again.
I was hosed on my trade because they would only give me $5k less than I owed on it (2004 Nissan 350 Z). No problem, I expected it to be in the same neighborhood. The Nissan dealer actually said they would give me $17k for it 6 months earlier. These guys were offering me almost $21k.
To make a long story short, we got everything going, and get into finance. Here's where things take an interesting turn. Larry Miller Toyota doesn't sell a Toyota warranty. They have their own so that Larry Miller can make more and more money. The finance guy started off by saying that the warranty was 10% of the vehicle price, but her would cut to the chase and give it to me for 5% fo the price. Oh gee thanks!!
I called a friend of mine on my cell, and asked about warranties becaue he's knowledgable about such things, and he said that a 5 year/60k mile should far less.
I go back into the fiance guy and he says he can do it for about $1500. I told him to just give me the deposit check back and that I didn't want to go through with it because the warranty was not Toyota, and it was just too much.
He says that the'll get my sales person, so he can at least say goodbye to me.
Another "manager" comes up and asks what it's going to take to close the deal. I told him that the Toyota warranty another dealer was $1,090. He asked if they could get it down to that price would be be able to close the deal, and I said sure.
So total out the door price of the vechicle after TTL, warranty and fees was about $53,500 (keeping in mind that $5000 of that was the negative equity in my trade)
The whole experience was draining as have been most of 5 car purcahses in the last 3 years.
