Ron Tonkin: Made appt with Mizan. He passed me off to another sales guy 1hr before we were set to meet. Not only was the promised vehicles not there but they had no TEPs in stock. DanielT took me for a test drive and there was no add'l pressure. I would consider doing business with DanielT but they don't have what I want in stock.

Gladstone: Told me how I just missed out on paying nearly msrp prices for 2015 TEP w/ 37k miles. Regardless the deal, I will not buy from here.

Gresham: Desi - Straight shooter but their prices were a bit high.

I will likely look into Vancouver and Bellevue as options.

Just an FYI for you Oregon guys, Vancouver does offer no sales tax to Oregon residents with ID on parts.

I was just down at Wilsonville Toyota yesterday because I was looking for an OEM key/alarm fob for my new to me 2000 4runner Limited, and they were the only ones that had one in stock that would work. Or so the service writer said anyways. I got there a couple minutes early to my appointment but the lane was open so I pulled in. I spoke to them on the phone and gave all my info and what I wanted, and was assured it was in stock and they were set up to do the programming on the remote fob. For some reason though the service writer says "It's gonna take awhile for them to cut the new one".... What? For some reason they thought I wanted a new key and fob. I said it was just the fob and he corrected the paperwork. No biggie all was well. I gave the service writer my keys and went into the lounge. After a few minutes I decided to go walk the lot and check out what they had. I was wearing a sweat shirt and shorts, I hadn't planned on being in public and looked like it, let alone buy a new car. I found some cool stuff, took some pics and sent em to some buddies, and headed back in.

I was intercepted by the sales manager and greeted professionally and we spoke for a minute. I told him my 4runner was in service and that I wasn't here to buy. But I liked the FJ that was outside. It was built up a little, ARB bumper, winch, Hella light bar and a few lights, suspension/tires. TRD decals He asked if I wanted to drive it, I said sure and he introduced me to a salesman. We're talking, and he mentions that since my 4runner is here I could always just trade it in and he'd be more than happy to go check out what trade in value was. As the salesman and I are walking out to the truck I flat told him I wasn't there to buy but I liked the FJ and he offered to drive it, if the trade in value is there I'll think about it. So I go drive, and its a sweet rig, I didn't get to use the locker or winch though, it was just a quick lap around town and on the freeway. When we get back I thank the salesman and the manager happens by, I asked if he looked up trade in and he hadn't, too busy, but he'd do it now and it'll take a few minutes. No problem, I'm in no rush. I go back to the lounge and chill, they've got the People's Court with Judge Milian on. A few minutes later he comes out and we talk, he says there's a lot of miles on it and it needs a lot of work, he could do $500. I must have had "STUPID" on my forehead or something. I kindly refrained from telling him to **** off, and chuckled and said "NOPE. No deal" and that was that. He asked if I wanted to see what payments would be and maybe I could sell it privately for a down payment. I said no and I wasn't going to buy. We shook hands and he walked away.

They had incorrectly told me the fob would work and it wouldn't program, so I didn't even get that right. I've since ordered one on ebay and I'm more than sure I can make it work. So all in all I wasted an hour of my time, only to be insulted on the value of my rig, and didn't get anything other than a test drive out of it. Big whoop I've driven Ferraris and race cars. I really don't care about an FJ. Oh well. Probably won't go back there.

I guess I'm purchasing elsewhere. Heck, the SE USA has pricing that is 3-6K cheaper than here. Covered shipping is about 2200 from Charleston SC.... = net profit.
Hmmm

Anyone else purchase their cars elsewhere?
Sounds like a good time for a one way plane ticket and a few day vacation to drive it home and see the country.

He told me once I knew what I wanted he would hand me off to the finance guy. I asked if he was the guy who negotiated. He looked at me and said "we don't really do that." I work for a large company that has a corporate discount service. (Edit for clarity: the corporate program has pre-negotiated auto prices with specific dealers. They pointed me to Beaverton Toyota.) So I went that route to see what they would do on the pre-negotiated price. It was ~$300 below MSRP - I'd already gotten quoted prices much better than that from other dealers. Once I get that price I asked if there was any room to move. They said no. When I decided to get a 2015 since there were no 2014s in the area with the color/options we wanted, I called to see if they'd do the same deal. No response to my calls. Multiple calls to the person who gave me the $300 below MSRP price. No return calls. I honestly don't know how they stay in business. EDIT: These guys also played up that they give 2 years or 25K miles free service. When I asked if that was just them or all Toyota dealers they said "It's just us. You have to come here to get the free service."

[
So i would never buy from or recommend Beaverton (Russ) Toyota to anyone again. 10 years ago when i bought my 2005 Tacoma TRD Double Cab I traded in a 2004 Hyundai Elantra. The Elantra has some slight body damage. Went through the usual haggling. They made an offer for the trade in. I signed the paper work for 4 years of payments, they signed paper work.
Paperwork otherwise known as a contract. 2-3 weeks later I got a call asking me to come down to discuss my trade in. I said Huh? Went down there and met with a general manager. They informed me that I owed them another $4k down due to the condition of my trade in. I said "WTF?!?"
Apparently a contract signed by a representative of Beaverton Toyota was meaningless. I raised my voice, not cussing, but made it known I was not happy. They asked me to calm down. Sorry but i was pissed. I put all the cash down I had. $4k after the fact? What kind of BS was that.

Needless to say I did not end up paying the additional $4k. But after that experience about the only way I could in could conscious buy a vehicle or parts from them the car/truck would have to be free.

Keeping the thread going.....
I started my search for a tep kdss. Contacted internet sales at Gladstone Toyota. Nice, responsive fellow told me to come in. Set me up with a really knowledgable salesman who let me test drive the truck, and then we started nogotiating. Got nowhere. The invoice price they show is inflated, and they add a bunch of useless dealer markup items to the cars to jack up the price. I made a fair offer based on Truecar regional values, and they rejected it. They let me walk out without compromising -- which is fine. I'll keep looking and leave my money with another dealer.

At least you didn't have the experience I had with them years ago when the cash for clunkers program was ongoing. We wanted a RAV 4 with a trade. Anyways, the salesperson was nice enough, but when we got to hammering out the price, the manager asked where I got such a ridiculous price from. When I showed them the print outs from KBB, Edmunds, etc, he started using profanities loudly in the showroom and accused me of trying to rob him. He told me to get out and never come back to his dealership.

I've dealt with pushy sales people before, the this one took the cake. I can see that salesperson's face react in horror as this was unfolding. As I left, the salesperson apologized profusely for the encounter.

1 week later, the had the audacity to call me at home to see if I still had interest in the RAV4. When I reminded them of my experience with them, they told me that they did hae a rogue employee who is now fired and not working for them anymore. Needless to say, I haven't bought another car from them since and will not buy my new 4Runner this year from them either.

I had a great experience at Ron Tonkin this weekend. Bought a car from the internet director. It was the smoothest, nicest car transaction I've ever had. The whole team was impressive, and no BS. We got a good price and were treated well.

Here's been my experience so far with my 4R search.

Signed up for the Costco program and got a message that stated Ron Tonkin was their dealer and someone from Tonkin would get a hold of me for a test drive and find out about the price. 2 weeks past and no contact from Tonkin. They sent me a survey asking my experience with the Costco program at Tonkin. I replied that I did not make contact with them.

Wilsonville Toyota had the 4R in stock, but their "no bull" price was $1500 more than what it should be. I didn't try to negotiate with them.

Vancouver Toyota did not have an SR5 with the 3rd row seats that I wanted, but had a reasonable price.

Worked out a deal with I-5 Toyota for a better price then I could get at Vancouver Toyota.

Hi all, I just recently put a deposit down on a 2016 Trail Premium at Beaverton Toyota (as yet to be delivered).

Initially I thought I'd get a Costco quote for the Trail or Trail Premium, but Costco reported back that there were zero dealers in the entire Portland area that would give me a Costco quote for that trim.

I decided to take the family over to Gladstone Toyota to test drive a Trail that they had on the lot. The salesman was very nice but when we got into the showroom to get a price they started to give me the sales management shuffle and drag their feet on a quote. I told them I really wanted the Premium with kdss. They told me due to the very high demand for that trim it would be difficult to obtain. They did find one I could reserve but the initial quote they shot me was $1500 over MSRP. approaching $44k.

I didn't bother to even negotiate on that and walked out.

I looked up every dealer in the greater Portland area and nobody except Vancouver had a Premium on the lot (that I could find) Vancouver only had red which is a no go for my wife. Of the dealers I actually talked to a salesperson nobody would give me a price for the premium over the phone or internet. Every one of them told me they would have to reserve from the manufacturer inventory.

Finally just for fun a looked up the Costco quote for a premium in Seattle. King city called me back with one car they could find in the area, but would only give me the Costco quote in person. After about a week of back and forth, explaining I am a willing buyer but unwilling to drive up without a least a price quote, the did sent me their Costco quote. That quote was about $1500 under MSRP.

I decided to drive to Beaverton because they had 2 in route from japan but they would not give me a detailed quote or options list over the phone. After driving down there, the price they quoted me was under the Costco price that I got from King city. They would not negotiate price and I was not financing and I did not have a trade in. I accepted the price as it seamed like the most reasonable offer I was gonna get in the car within 200 miles or so. And it was within my price expectations and budget.

Not sure about their service However. I would really like to settle on a Toyota service department near me SE Portland. Sounds like Vancouver might be worth looking at.

Man, I have been looking into a premium 4Runner and have run across what most of you guys have in regards to dealerships around here.
ugh
I am glad I saw this thread that does show that my experience with these stealerships is not uncommon. I shall keep looking and hopefully I will find something reasonable soon.

If you don't have the time or the inclination to deal with these dealerships, consider a broker. I used a guy at AAA. I told him what I wanted and he found it. He is well known at the dealerships and wont get screwed over like the rest of us (or at least not as bad). Granted, the broker service is not free if you end up buying through them. My broker knows all about the local dealerships and pretty much agrees with everything on this post. In addition, he says to never buy the dealer warranty. AAA offers an extended warranty that is cheaper and has a lot more coverage. When you finally purchase the car, it only takes about half an hour.
