Selman Chevrolet (I know it's not Toyota), Orange CA
I know this isn't a Toyota dealership, but nevertheless, if you're into buying a Chevrolet or know someone who is, you should keep reading.
We bought a certified pre-owned Suburban from Selman Chevrolet. Vehicle looked good, drove good, got a decent deal and didn't think anything about it. Fast forward about 8 months and we changed our minds about having such a big vehicle. Took it to a local dealership to see what we could get on trade. Salesman comes out a few minutes later after looking at it and tells us the car isn't worth a whole lot because it was involved in a wreck......... Only found out because the Carfax (which is worthless information) the salesman showed us that the vehicle was wrecked two years earlier and was just now being reported.
I'm on the phone to Selman Chevrolet the next day and end up getting passed around from person to person for about a week. I was offered to trade it in for something else. I was offered $500 for us to go away and some other cash offers that were just insulting. Needless to say, nobody would return calls or speak with us... Until I got a lemon law attorney involved. Prior to sending in our sales contract and other paperwork to our attorney we reviewed the on-star report from the vehicle. The on star report showed a date where on star was activated but here was no description of what it was.
We investigated a little more by calling on star and comparing notes with what they had. We were told they couldn't release any information about the day where there was no description about the on star activation because we weren't the owners of the vehicle at the time. We were eventually able to find out this date was the day the vehicle was wrecked.....
Fast forward a few weeks later and we were able to find out the vehicle was wrecked and SELMAN CHEVROLET DID THE BODY WORK TO PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER!!! My blood was boiling knowing that they knew the vehicle was wrecked and they fixed it; putting it back on the lot as a certified pre owned. We brought it to Selman's attention and they quickly passed the buck to the service department, and the body shop and then the sales person.... Nobody would talk to us about it.
Fast forward about 6 months and the dealership all of a sudden decided it would be in their best interest to buy back the vehicle from us instead of being slaughtered in civil court. When we showed up for the buy back inspection, we were told the vehicle would somehow need $3,000 in body work and repair so they could sell the vehicle... I'm no rocket scientist, but I'm definitely not an idiot. I know they were going to simply wash it and put it back on the lot. It was in that good condition. Thankfully we got nearly all of our money back with the exception of a small portion.
Moral of the story: Never trust a dealership and a carfax. Especially with a used or certified pre-owned vehicle. Have a body shop or mechanic inspect your vehicle before purchasing it.
To sum up the experience I had with Selman Chevrolet, I wouldn't piss on that place if it was burning.
Buyer beware from Selman Chevrolet.
