Hey guys wanted to drop a few words about my experience at Toyota of Plano.
My Check engine, VSC, and Trac lights all came on middle of December. I ran the codes at a local AutoZone, and from what i found on the internet it could be about 5 things, so wanting to get the job done right and not have to mess with trying multiple solutions, i reluctantly took it to the dealer, as I am new in the area and really don't know of a quality mechanic i can trust.
So they have the vehicle a day and come back with a solution for the check engine lights as well as a few other things that i was due on. They determined the CCV (or PCV??) valve had gone bad, which they were able to replace without much hassle, they also find a crack in one of the hoses from my air intake, but have to order that piece in. So the following afternoon i pick up the vehicle, and am pleased with the service, the "honest" sales rep i had.
A week goes by and boom my check engine, VSC, and Trac lights all come on again. So i immediately run it back up to the dealership and was all
So they asked to keep the vehicle and GIVE me a loaner. So they can find out what is going on.
They call me back and tell me they have some how hydro-locked the vehicle with gas (basically the same as flooding it w water, only its gas) so they cant do anything with the vehicle until they get the gas out of the engine (spark plugs wouldn't fire). So they recheck the timing on the engine as they still have no idea how the flooding happened, and proceed to find out what had happened to make the lights come on.
They determine my charcoal fuel filter cartrigdge has gone bad and quote me another 750 bucks to get this fixed!! I tell them ill be by to pick it up and get a second opinion before i go any further. I swing into pick it up and they try to charge me for the loaner they said they would "GIVE" me!!
So i take it to a local mechanic i found that only works on Toyota's, and uses only OME parts. He runs the codes, scratches his head and asks me for the paperwork on what they did. looks it over and calls me into the shop, were the codes the stealership said they fixed are still listed!! so i hop back in the truck and head up to the dealership to find out what the heck is going on. I end up talking to the general manager and he wants another mechanic to take a peek at it to verify what is going on. So i drop the vehicle off with them yet another day.
Get a call back and they have found that it is not the canister that is leaking but the hose that connects the fuel tank to the canister!! I tell them ill be by to pick up the vehicle and not to do any further work on it.
I really think these guys do a shotgun approach to fixes, when they should take time and thoroughly diagnose the problem before they give you a solution. Needless to say I will never EVER let them lay a hand on a vehicle on mine ever again. I am a Toyota buyer for life and will never do business with them again. Shotty mechanics and misdiagnose of info have cost me time and money.
Id be happy to give you a local (Dallas area) mechanic that i have used should anyone need a referal!
PM me and ill get you the info!
