Do I need an Engine block heater???

I'm in the Army and have just came on orders to Ft Drum, NY. I hear it gets extremely cold there during the winter (like 5F on occasion). I have an 04 4Runner V8. Chances are, it will be parked outside. Do you guys think I need one or not???

You should be OK without a heater. You may want to change all your oils to synthetics.

AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 0W-30 Motor Oil is specially formulated for superior cold temperature engine protection. Series 2000 retains excellent fluidity in extremely low temperatures, so it flows quickly and reliably to allow easy starting and immediate lubricating protection.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR EP lubricants excel in hot and cold temperature extremes. By design, they resist breakdown from high heat, preventing acids and carbon/varnish formation. Their waxfree construction also improves cold flow properties, improving fuel economy and cold weather shifting.

Ft. Drum

I used to be stationed @ Ft. Drum 1989 -1991. It gets very cold but not cold enough to have an engine block heater. Just change your oils according to the seasons. But you will definitely benefit from the 4WD as I had a 4WD Jeep Cherokee. I was with 3/25 aviation brigade, Huey crewchief/ door gunner.
