Navigation and XM

Hey Guys!

This may have been covered before. I have a 04 SR5 with the factory head unit (non JBL) and am interested in putting in navigation and also XM radio. Is this even possible. If so, how and what products do you all recommend. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!
Blaine

Pioneer is coming out with a double din navigation unit very soon that is XM and XM traffic compatable, however it can't be used as a individual DVD player. I'm personnally going with the Eclipse AVN5435 which is Sirius compatable.

With regards to the Eclipse unit....is this as simple as swapping out my factory head unit with the Eclipse unit or is there more to it? I am not partial to XM it is just what I had previously. Sirius would be sufficient.

Do you have to purchase the head unit and then a seperate tuner for the sirius or is at all built in? Since the Eclipse unit is Sirius compatible does that mean it is integrated on the NAV screen?

I believe installing the Eclipse unit in a non-JBL system is a easy swap out along with connecting certain speed sensor cables. With this unit you will keep access to the steering wheel controls. The compatable sirius unit is hidden behind the dash and you control it through the Eclipse headunit, so you will see everything on the navigation screen. See the Best 2 din Nav Headunit Thread for more information.

I am in the same situation, I love my XM radio, but I hate not having a clean install in my new truck (using a Roady).

The Pioneer unit looks nice, but not playing DVDs is a deal breaker for me.

The Eclipse unit looks like they way to go.

Anyone know how Sirius compares to XM in terms of sound quality and depth of programming?

I would be easier to swap out the factory 4Runner nav for a Factory Camery/Solara NAV. It is basically the same unit as the Eclipse... and it is Toyota's 4th Generation NAV (vs. the 3rd Generation that came with your 4Runner. And... the 4th Generation NAV supports XM (just buy a factory XM kit from toyota and you are good to go.)

No, not byon it's own. you can have it play DVD's via the RSE or a third party DVD solution.
