review of Yokohama Geolander A/T +II tires
I bought Yokohama Geolander A/T +II tires at tirerack....for my 'new' 97 4runner, this is my "first impressions" of the tires.
I'm using the 4runner as an "all around" vehicle, all the other cars we own are either sports cars or non-street race cars. Looking to tow an open trailer with a race car on occasion, sometimes the 4runner will be seeing mud and snow and general non-paved areas. General vehicle for carrying stuff. We walk or metro to work so it's not a daily commuter car.
I was going to go with a more "highway" tire, but tirerack was out of my selection, so decided to go with the A/T +II. I stuck with the stock size of 265/70-16
First off, these tires are very aggressive, the photos don't do them justice! Noise at highway speed is very slight considering how aggressive the tread is on them. The groves are deep and multi-layered. Control so far is quite good in these, definitely better than the set of Goodyears that were on it previously. Smooth transitions in turns, comfortable slip angles for a truck, overall good handling for an off-road AT tire! Comfortable cruising at 75mph and grippy.
I suspect I will lose 1-2 MPG on these but maybe not, I had so far averaged 19-20 in mixed city/highway driving, so even if I drop to 17-18 that's not too shabby.
I'm looking forward to some slush and snow to play in now ;-)
