An alternative to this if your need is only for cellphone charging is to replace one of the console blanks with a direct USB connection:

I used a low profile mini fuse tap to isolate the circuit at the fuse box then a SwitchPro to back-feed power when I want it, independent of the acc circuit or in conjunction with it (configured via the SwitchPro). A bit overkill but works perfect and highly configurable.

You can still run your battery into the ground with this mod... but it will just take a little longer when you don't have to key on.

If you hook up one up and rewire all your accessory loads to it... then you have leave it unattended and always come back with enough juice to start the car again.

Hey guys, a bit confused on this. I've got a 2007 Limited with just the 12V in the compartment to the left of the shifter ("ashtray" area) and one by the back hatch. Will this mod make my front 12V outlet be constant? Just want to clarify since they OP said it was for only his rear outlet.

Maybe I wasn't totally clear. I did this mod mainly to keep the rear outlet on but this mod makes both the front and rear 12V outlets constantly on.

- First, my assumption is that the OP has bridge the high amp side of the relay. In a standard SPDT relay, this would be terminals 87 and 30. Generally speaking, either 87 or 30 is a fused 12+ constant. Bridging these terminals, you will effectively get 12V constant on the other pin.

- By this assumption, only the loads (accessories) that are on that circuit should light up. I don't understand why things like the compass comes on. Unless they on this circuit, but if this is true then why do some members have the compass on and others do not? (maybe different years or maybe some members just do not have the electronic compass.)

- If the compass is not on the same circuit, then perhaps some members are jumping the wrong terminals (i.e. 87 to 85 or 87 to 86.) But if that's the case then the outlets will not work.
Do you have any suggestions or alternative methods to achieve always on power to the rear dc outlet?

Could you post where you found the single blades with crimp sockets and wire ga. you used? Thanks for the great description and pictures!

Single blades are from any automotive supply store. Up here, I got them at Canadian Tire.

16 ga stranded wire.

This is helpful. I would really like to be able to have my phone charge while the car isn’t running. I’m going to try this one out.
