Maybe this auto timer http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_2508/article.html will be good to install with this mod.

That device is very interesting, but it could not charge a cell phone since the timer

Just finished this 'mod'. Works great! I added a wire to one of the spade connectors in anticipation of wiring my wife's Magellan unit directly. Freeing up the lighter!
Thanks for the instructions!

I had already performed the constant power mod and recently added in the dual outlet replacement with the ashtray.
I just noticed that the cigarette lighter port shuts off with the ignition key out but the auxiliary port stays powered up. Might be useful. I'll leave the radar detector on the cigarette port and put the cell phone charger on the constant power port.

I'm getting ready to do this mod, but this statement has me a little concerned. Those that have performed this mod, is this really true. I don't think I really want this to be "on" all the time.

The statement is true. However , I found another wire that is only on when the truck is on. I'll pull open my kick plate and figure out which wire it is. Ill also take some pics too.

That would be great thanks.
Does it bother/concern you or anyone that has done this mod that you have a constant power draw to the compass mirror?
Doesn't seem to me to be a very desireable situation. Granted, it's probably a very slight power draw, but still.

except for those of us that don't have the compass mirror!
...otherwise I agree that there is no sense in leaving it running
I spent the money on ammo...
