Hello,
This is actually my first post on this site. I have been watching since I bought my rig last August. I have not had anything to say until now. But, I wanted to give credit were it was due. I did this taillight mod. Looks great. If someone rear ends me now, they are blind!! Thanks again.

Hey woodbert, is there anyway to get the factory part to make them the fogs like they are elsewhere. I don't really want another brake or marker light but I would like to turn them intp rear fogs.

THat is definitely able to do. If I had the manual, I would tell you what line you need to tap into. But that is definitely able to do. Hey, in case that anyone else has not tried it, I used those nifty little line tap connectors. It was quick and easy, I did not have to cut and strip anything. I can take some pics if anyone wants to see them.
Later,
Joseph

How did you do it? I had to cut and strip all the lines.

I am going to see if I can find a pick of the connectors that I used. Otherwise, I will take a pic and post on here. I think that if someone is planning on doing this mod, these connectors will speed everything up.
Later,

the connecters just clip onto the existing wires and basically act as a spice. nice and neat. no wire cutting.

Borla Dual Exhaust
I couldn't help but notice the Borla Exhaust. I want to change from the stock muffler that exists straight out the back. When the windows are down, exhaust gas is sucked into the passenger compartment. The rotten egg smell the dealer says is caused by the gasoline may be just that. There is a law taking effect this spring that will make the gasoline compnies reduce the amount of sulphur.
Anyway, I have been wanting to change the muffler. The Borla site does not show a replacement. Also,, I had the 4Runner on a lift and could not figure out any way to route the tialpipe to the drivers side.
How did you do it?
How does it sound?

This is the coolest mod! The wiring and additional grounding wire were perfectly spec'd.
I chose to use a Dremel and hack the whole round end off so that I could mount the sockets properly. I also smeared Goop over all the holes that were left after mounting the sockets.
Goop works well. It dries fast and leaves a rubber solution that can be removed easily to change the bulbs. I have first hand knowledge of that as I forgot to install one of the bulbs!
Anyway, I took my time and did it right. All the wires for wrapped in that black spirly casing that is available everywhere. It's very clean and very cool! Here's some pics ...
Tip: Before installing, make sure you test the bulbs to identify the brake wire. It will be the brightest. As suggested earlier, ground wire to chassis and touch red battery post with one of the other wires. Good luck!

Last pic 3 showing the Goop ... The earlier pick of the lights in action on the other 4Runner is exactly the same as mine.

Thanks for posting photos to show the mod process! As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words... (or, in my case, 1,463 of them to be exact!)

No part number for the socket, but your local auto parts shop should be able to find the match for the bulbs. I can find the part number I used next time I'm in the store, but it will be a Canadian Tire part and probably not the same as what you'll have available.

For us less mechanically(electrically?) inclined, wouldn't it be nice if we could get a "kit" of everything we need (including the LED bulbs and whatever part holds the socket on the Japanese model)? I still might try to hunt down the parts and try this mod.
