Needing some serious help..

The planets aligned today and both of my kids were napping at the same time so I figured I'd be able to get it done in 2-3 hours. I got the wires ran and my camera installed but (thankfully) I decided to test the rear window before I buttoned everything up. Whenever I roll down the rear window, it snags on the cord and would snap it. I reran the wire 3 times and fixed my connections 3 times before giving up. So now I have a camera installed, and the wires ran into the inside of the 4runner, but their not connected because the window keeps cutting them. What am I doing wrong?!

Anyone have any ideas? I've never read that anyone had had this issue before.

May sound obvious but, did you try running longer wire? Also, whats more important is that you run your wire while window is down, this way you know exactly where obstructions are on the path and route accordingly.

For such an old post it's still helpful. I used it for most of my recent install. Thank!

Dash switch

Just an idea, but for the reverse sensor wire, could you just hook that up to a switch on the dash with a little current feeding through so that it's entirely manually operated, but you can turn it on anytime?

I only need my camera about 10% of the time when parallel parking into those spots that are usually a touch too small so the non-auto-reverse-on wouldn't Inconvienence me.

Anyone have an idea what kind of power that wire needs for it to realize its backing up?

Getting ready to do this - backup camera comes with the Boss 755 radio I am getting ready to install. Like everyone else I'm hoping to see some pictures if possible, and see if anyone has an answer to the gentleman who has the wire snapping problem when rolling the rear window down.

Anyone have any experience installing the Boss 755 radio and backup camera?

Thanks in advance!

Finished my backup camera install this past weekend. Zip tie your camera wires to the existing wire harness. Do not have any slack dangling in the hatch cavity. If the camera wires are snug against the existing harness, they won't get caught on the window.

The attached photo shows rubber grommet where the camera wire feeds into cavity from exterior camera. Wire is zip tied to existing harness and runs to driver side of cavity. You can see the red and yellow RCA plugs running to the left (they are loose in the photo since I wasn't done yet, but the final install has the wires very snug against the harness).

Has anybody gotten hyper flash after installing the backup camera? I tapped into the reverse wire at the tail light so I didn’t have to worry about running power all the way to the front. I’ve looked everywhere but I can find out how to fix it for a backup camera. I’m considering putting in a load resistor but I wanted to see if anybody knew that would work before i did that.

I am not sure how a camera install would cause this. Where did you set up the power wire ? seen people tapping into the backup light power source. if you go that route there is a tap that does not require any cutting. I know Cructhfield sells them.
