Question MAF sensor output type

Does anyone know the output of the MAF sensor? I am trying to prove to myself whether or not one can actually get more air into the intake manifold. I do not believe reports from aftermarket air filter manufactures anymore than I believe that my local politician will lower my taxes! If I could measure the output of this sensor, with and without an air filter, then I might know if there is any real restriction here. Having said that, there are sometimes compromises made with certain properties. In other words will increased flow of one filter compared to another also mean less filtration?

I can hook my palm pilot up to the OBDII and can get a reading from the MAF Sensor and I am pretty sure it is lb/min. Hope this helps.

Steve,

You should be able to get that info from a repair manual. Usually you will find a good/bad voltage/resistance range in the troubleshooting section for that sensor.
