Mamma's got a new bag to go with her clothes

Yakima Platinum Pro 18 (18 cubic feet of storage). Family just got back from vacation and this cargo box came in very handy Fairly aerodynamic comparatively speaking to most hamburger cartons, very little wind noise @ 80 MPH and a close color match too. It fits like a glove on the factory rack.

That style box actually looks good......
Does that open from the side or in the front? How much MPG do you lose with that?

That is the cool thing about this box. It actually opens from both sides. The way they designed the hinge system allows it to be opened from eaither side. I haven't been on any re3ally long trips, so I didn't even get agood sense of mileage yet.

Thanks Momo. Looks great too. I'm not really sure about the mileage. We traveled from STL to Gulf Port/Biloxi. I still got around 310 miles to a tank of gas. The computer still says an average speed of 34 MPH and 17.3 miles per gallon. I can't remember the last time the trip computer changed, which is surprising when I averaged a good 80-85 MPH for around 1000 of the 1350 mile round trip. It starts off with a full tank of gas saying 365 miles to empty and the next thing I know it's below 300 in 30 minutes. I don't put much clout in the trip computer.

To be honest, I hardly ever keep up with my mpg. I just put gas in it when I need it and go on. I work out of my house so generally I can go about a week and a half to two weeks on a tank of gas.

NICE RACK!! J/K. Great to hear such good things about it. We are planning a trip soon and any info would be great. Been trying to debate between the Thule and Yakhima. It is good to hear that it fits on the stock rack. I don't want to have to buy another one.

Also good to see another STL person on the site. SoCo here, where are you?

I got the rack brand new through Northfork Sports. I know the guy does a lot of business on Ebay and ships out of Salt Lake. I paid $359 + $80 in shipping. I saved around $90 to $100 bucks buying on line instead of REI, for instance. NO TAX on line and he ships through Forward Air. I had it in two days. I've always owned Yakima products. I bought Q Towers over 10 years ago that faded and a few parts were rusting and Yakima replaced the parts no questions asked 6 years later. Yakima really stands behind it's products. I also own a Yakima hitch 4-bike carrier. I live in Webster Groves. I was beginning to believe I was the only cards fan on this forum.

Well your pics were irresistable - I just bought the Yakima Platinum Pro 16s for our vacation next week. Can't wait to try it on for size. The 16s was a full foot shorter than the 18, and plus I don't have the rear spoiler, so I'm hoping it won't cover up my sunroof all that much. It was $396 at a local outfitter/camping store - and the only Platinum Pro anyone had within driving distance!

I'll post some pics when we load up this weekend.

Well here is about the only pic I have without family in it that shows the box on top.

And I agree with the original poster that wind noise was minimal and it fit like a glove on the factory rack - we were the most stylish SUV-with-a-cargo-carrier-on-top on the island!

(hope I'm not thread hijacking here)

Rack looks great! I'm shopping around for the 18 Blacktop (I think its the same as the Platinum Pro except for color) and had a question regarding rack space... If I install an 18 Blacktop and shift it all the way to passenger side of the rack, how much room (inches) is left on the driver's side of the rack? I'm just trying to figure out if I can add additional rack accessories... Thanks!

There isn't a whole lot of room on the sides left to strap much else down to the crossbars, if that's what you're asking. I suppose if you had a soft-sided bag with clothes or something like that in it then you could squeeze it in there.

Id say thats about the best looking cargo rack you will find. I remember the days of strapping the "hamburger carton" on the roof of the minivan and going on vacation. By the way you arent the only cards fan, i grew up in south county, and currently live in St. Peters. If you see a 05 blue 4r with cards personalized plates that is most likely me.
