California Legal Headers

Hi: I am a bit new to the forum and have an 05 4runner with the 4.7L motor. The problem, the exhaust manifold(s) leak and I want to replace them. I thought about using OEM manifold(s) but I would guess they would last about 50-70K before needing to be replaced. I had read in other forum that folks were replacing their stock manifolds with headers, that would last longer and give a bit more power.

Has anyone with a California based 4runner with the 4.7L motor been able to find CARB compliant headers and install them in their 4runner.

Thank you,
Patrick

Nope , however if you check on autoanything you'll see what's offered Only 49 st legal ! But they do have cats inc. & bungs for O2 sensors so you might pass visual inspection ? Pacesetter & magnaflow are only options .

Thanks for the response. I hate to pay the money out on a header system that won't pass smog in California, that could be real expensive to correct. I figured with all the 4runners in California, someone must make a CARB compliant header that will pass smog and have the certificate.

Ya wish there was better info , lucky in Nev. no visual plus as long as CEL not on will pass . I'm actually going with pacestter 1s because of other members good results , seems they are better than are oem , if magnaflows weren't so f-ing expensive would go that way , what I don't understand is why if they have cats & O2 sensors why not ?

California is a strange place at times. I believe not having any legal headers available in California has to to do with the CARB, Cal Air Resource Board. They certify any aftermarket exhaust parts for California vehicles and I guess they are a real pain in the rear to deal with, and get the certificate for aftermarket parts. I will keep looking and will see if someone is trying to get headers approved for the 4runner.

Thanks again.

over the years a few places have siad they may start making them but all have given up, at least in part, because of fitment problems on the different model years, so dont hold your breath. heres a couple threads that may have info. Wow, even if there were California legal headers, from the other threads, it sounds like they just won't fit without a lot of mods. Okay, back to Toyota for an exhaust manifold to replace the leaking one.

30 v8s and we have the best headers in CA!

Doug Thorley needs 30 individuals from CA ready to purchase a set and will commit to us directly for us to move forward on the CARB testing. Approval looks to be a lock in the sense of passing and getting approved, but the cost is high for the test. To all CA residents interested the costs will be

$725.00 (headers)
$58.00 (Tax)
$783.00 (total)

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Will all previous versions bought that are in CA get a carb sticker? Or would it have to be one of these 30 sets and any bought thereafter? I'm in CA and have them on my 4R. Wouldn't mind having that sticker if I stay here long enough and have to smog again.

You can put me on the list for this. Planning on moving to California soon and I'm running magnaflows that I know won't pass visual.
