Camry '05 NAV causing "check engine"?

I just got my new 2006 4Runner a couple of weeks ago after turning in my 2005 lemon. I took the 05 Camry NAV out of the 2005 before turning it in so I could put it in my 2006. However, I'm having a couple of problems.

When we first installed it in the 2006, my speed sensor didn't work and I got the check engine light and the vsc trac light. We left the steering wheel controls connector out and tapped a different wire for the speed sensor and everything worked fine. Thinking tapping the wrong wire for speed caused the lights, I reconnected the steering wheel controls. Same thing, no speed sensor and same lights on dash. I'm thinking Toyota changed something between the 2005 and 2006 on that steering wheel control plug. Anybody else run into something like this?

I really miss my steering wheel controls as it's much safer to change channels that way rather than taking my eyes off the road to do it. I was going to post a message on oemvalue's forum, but it seems to be down at the moment. Would appreciate any info!!!

Doug

Hmmm......Toyota engineers probably got wise of the fact that 4Runner owners were installing the Camry Nav unit in the vehicle. I bet it also had something to do with some folks bypassing the speed sensor and/or tricking out the system by using workaround wiring methods.

I had the exact same problem...

I have 2006 ltd, and I posted about the exact same problem a couple of weeks ago. After two days, the lights just went off by themselves, and I've had no problems since then. You might try disconnecting the negative battery post and let the truck sit for a little while before re-connecting.

I installed a 2006 solara nav in my Ltd. with JBL system. First install was problem free, but I never connected up the reverse wire. Two weeks ago I tried to tap into the reverse wire, but I think I picked the wrong one. I pulled that tap out, and tapped into the correct wire, but then I had the same problem as you...check engine light, VSC lights, and my cruise control didn't work ("cruise" light would come on, but I couldn't set a speed).

This all happened on a Friday night, and late Sunday afternoon it just cleared up by itself.

I had a similar problem after messing with the speed wires, although it was my windows and turn signals that didn't work. I also had the check engine light and the airbag light on.

Turns out I had blown a fuse. I can't remember which one, but it was one that didn't have a real obvious name. I couldn't believe that one fuse was causing all of that seemingly random trouble (i.e. turn signals didn't work, but hazards did). If you're still having the trouble, I recommend checking every fuse 1 by 1 to see if any are blown. Your situation sounds almost exactly like mine.
