Tire Chains

Before bringing home our 4runner, the dealer had us sign a half-sheet that stated the vehicle cannot accommodate snow chains, and to reference the owner's manual for other traction improving accessories. Any idea why? The manual just says to make sure tire chains are the right size when installing them. Thanks in advance.

I have owned several stock vehicles that came with optional tire packages where the owners manual clearly stated you could not use tire chains but cable chains would fit. Examples were my 92 Toyota Camry and my 94 Blazer with 16 inch rims. Apparanlty there was not enough clearance between the tires and body if you ran chains.

As far as the 4runner goes however I see no such mention in the owners manual.
