New Alpine HUs

So what do you think about the new Alpine HUs and iPod fast connection cables?

Has anyone heard about these? You can go to Crutchfield.com and look at them. They are pretty cool. You no longer need the extra iPod interface, its just a cable. Cool?

Are you tallking about the Ai-Net cable? I have just installed it, but am yet to use it with an Ipod. It's only $16. That sure beats the $100 Alpine interface. Plus, when I spoke to a Crutchfield rep, they told me to save my money and get the Ai cord instead of the interface. They told me that the interface is not user friendly, and that it takes way too long to scroll through songs.

I don't think this cable is out yet. It called something like iPod Fast Connection...they just announced it at CES. It supposed to be faster than the previous Alpine iPod interface. And I believe it's compatible only with the 2006 Alpine HUs.

According to Crutchfield, the HUs will be available February 6.

Nothing changes about the sound quality, its just a direct interface with the iPod as opposed to the KCA-420i box which had to interpret the signals from the HU, then correspond with the iPod. That was slow because of that and now this is just using the full speed of the iPod interface so it will spend much less time loading a track, searching etc.

the downside to the new alpine head units are that they are all going to 2v pre-outs. that sucks!!!!!

I'm a DF when it comes to understanding pre-outs. Why are 2V pre-outs bad? What do typical amps use?

O.k., I did a little quick searching and will answer my own question to help the few of you aren't as stereo savy as I:
(I just put in the below HU and was thinking about the new Alpine HU-but now aren't too sure about the 2V pre-out)

If you decide to connect an amplifier to the Premier DEH-P960MP, its three Hi-Volt (6.5V) pre-outs will deliver a clean, powerful signal path. The higher the volts that a pre-out provides, the better the signal strength to your amp, and then your amp doesn

here's the thing. you would think that higher is better all the time. it is if your amp can handle it. alpine amps can only handle 4v before shutting off, so if you were to connect one of the new pioneer premier decks up to that you would be screwed.

Talking

Gotcha. Good thing I went with a T8004 Fosgate then. Didn't know this when I started buying components. Guess I got lucky in the end that they all worked out.

Alpine typically has 4 volt pre-outs on their amps.

So I'm trying to decide if I should buy one of these new HUs. I'm really interested in the iPod feature but I dunno if it's worth $200+. Will these HUs offer me anything else, like better sound, more power, etc? My stereo system is all stock.
