I am thinking that I may just be able to pick up some 1/8th inch rubber spacers (and possibly longer bolts if needed) and put those inbetween the mount bracket and the bolt hole in the dash. That should bring the head unit out far enough to sit perfectly in the dash (and should only end up costing about $2).

If I get time, I will attempt this sometime this week.

If you still have that 05 unit for sale, I will buy it. I only have the single cd unit in my truck and would like at least the six disc capability.

just sent you a PM UoD, will this unit fit the 05 single disc unit? If so will I need a wiring harness to allow for the six discs to work properly?

Sent you a reply ......

As far as the fit goes --- If you read the second post in this thread, sharp4runr mentions that he switched from a 2004 single disc JBL to a 2005 6 disc JBl and had to change out the silver bezel as well as the panel which has the AC controls. I think this is because the 6 disc unit is slightly larger than the single disc unit. I can not confirm whether or not this would be the case if you are switching a 05 single disc to a 05 6-disc.

Anyone have a definite answer to this question?

I was just wondering if you still had your 05 JBL 6 disk changer. I'd definitely be interested in buying that from you. Thanks, DHB

aux input

UoD

Any luck on installing the aux port? and if so how does the install work with the O6 HU. I'm also switching from a 05 JBL single disk to a 06 JBL 6 disk that I should receive any day. Just wandering if I should also consider the VAIS ipod interface as well or whether there is a way to utilize the aux input.

BTW, thanks for this post very informative.

ScottyMac,

There had to be a way to utilize the aux port --- I just have not found a way to do it yet (of course, I also have not had much time to figure it out right now either ...). I will try to look into it next week.

OfficerRex,

I just bought the rubber spacers on wednesday from Home Depot --- I just need to find some time to tear the dash apart again and put them in. I am pretty confident it will work without a problem. I will try to do that this weekend and post pictures.

UPDATE

I took the dash apart again to put the spacers in .... but I ended up not even needed them. Apparently, I put the bolts into the headunit before snapping the dash on. The bolts are actually supposed to go through the holes in the dash trim (which is obviously when you look at it --- but it was dark out when I put my dash back together last time and I totally missed it).

So ---- the 2006 JBL unit fits perfectly into the 05 dash without any gaps....

As far as getting the aux input to work -- I have yet to find anyone with an online 2006 parts catalog. Whenever I get one, I will try ordering the pieces for it.

Cool, now if I could FIND a 2006 head unit I'd be in great shape. I have been looking on the internet for 2 months now and haven't seen one for sale yet

thanks for posting the results

ANOTHER UPDATE

Went to the Toyota parts guy in my town again today. He pulled up the 2006 parts catalog on his computer to look for a way to order the wiring necessary to get the AUX input to work on my 2006 JBL. Apparently, he can only order the ENTIRE wiring harness (the master harness for everything in the dash .....). So -- no luck there (what a surprise!)....

Anyhow --- he did have a good suggestion. He said to call JBL's automotive division and ask them about an adapter. So -- I plan on doing that shortly ......

Will post the results when I get them
