I think I know which wires I need to tap into now ... but, I have not had any time to mess with it yet.

I did not notice any increase in the sound quality after installing the 06 unit.

yeah ive been pulling my hair out trying to figure out which wires i need to splice to get the aux working. i dont have the 06 unit yet. but i might consider doing this to my 05 jbl. if you have any ideas i would appreciate it.

i even considerd modifying the tape deck. the head that reads the magnetic strip has a left and right channel just like every tape unit out there. trick would be just to solder the head off and add some RCA female ends to it. then all i would have to do is hit tape and i would have whatever input.

AUX?

Hello!! Did you ever figure out how to get the AUX function to work on the 06 JBL unit? I just purchased a unit and will upgrade from an 05 6-dics JBL to the 06. Thanks,

I have yet to get a chance to tear everything apart and start figuring everything out. I think I know what I need to splice into ... and I think it can be done with about $10 worth of parts from radio shack. Sorry I have been dragging my feet on this --- work got really busy back in July and has not slowed down since. I will get to it around the holidays when things calm down.

A little off subject

I'm interested on the turn out for this one as well. Sorry to get a little off subject. I searched the forums as much as I could but didn't find a definitive answer. It's pretty apparent that the 06 JBL 6 disc will work with an 05... my question is, I have an 04 JBL 6 disc and was wondering if the 06 model would work/fit?

Thanks for any help. Santa brought me a Sirius Sportster 4 so I'm looking at different scenarios for an install.

Did you find the AUX cable for the headunit? Or did you get a chance to figure out how to add an AUX in? I just purchased an 07 jbl unit for my 05.

Anyone know the model numbers of either the 2006 or 2007 JBL 6 disk head unit? I currently have the 2005 JBL 6 disc and it's not working. I don't want to get an aftermarket stereo, can't find any on ebay and want to do a search by model numbers on the internet. Click the link to see what the problem is with my current system. If anyone is selling a 2006 JBL or 2007 JBL 6 disk head unit, please let me know. Thanks!!

It kind of looks like there is something keeping the drive spindle from coming all the way up through the hole in the disk so the disk can't come up to speed and just slips. There are three little clamps arranged in a triangle and they should go through the disk and then move out against the center hole in the disk. Instead the disk is just sitting on top of them. Try pushing them in toward the center. I think you can turn off the key while the spindle is up so you can work on it.

THE YELLOW ARROWS SHOW THE LOCATIONS OF THE SCREWS THAT NEED TO BE REMOVED. THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE UNIT. (The screws were already removed in this picture).

GIVE THE BACK OF THE TOP PLATE A LITTLE TUG AND IT WILL UNLATCH. PULL UP AND THEN TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE UNIT.

Ok --- So, in my case there were actually two things causing the ERROR3. The first was the fact that the previous owner left two jammed CDs inside of the thing. One disc was in slot 3 and the other disc was jammed in between slots 2 and 1. This in turn cause the second problem --- the laser that moves between the discs also got jammed when trying to get around the jammed disc.

Removing the jammed disc wasn't too bad. I brought the unit back out to the car and plugged it in with the cover off. I held down the eject button while pushing on the jammed disc and it managed to jump back into place and eject without a problem. Once the disc was ejected, I was able to move the laser back into place. Its hard to illustrate this with a picture... but I will do my best.

THE YELLOW ARROW IS POINTING TO THE LOCATION OF THE LASER ARM. THIS WILL SOMETIMES GET STUCK WHEN TRYING TO RETURN TO ITS DOCKING POINT. WITH THE UNIT TURNED ON, I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE LASER IN A DOWNWARD MOTION AND THIS ALLOWED IT TO JUMP BACK INTO PLACE.

So --- unit is working now.
So... Uod, I know this is a really old thread, but I just purchased a similarly aged 2006 T4R with the same jammed CD player problem. Any chance of reposting the pics for me? Links to them are no longer any good. FSU ditched them.. Thanks!

SUCCESS!!!!

CD's stuck in the changer!!

I'm still interested in learning how to take the face plate off of the head unit Uod if that's easy for you. Otherwise.. Content to cruise with just good luck.
