2006 4Runner Limited JBL with Pioneer Avic-Z1
Hey everyone first time posting on here but long time lurker. I scoured the posts for hopefully a little more info but could not find anything. I recently replaced my 2002 4Runner for a 2006, and also just had a Pioneer Avic-Z1 installed. The installer was able to get the steering wheel controls to work, but when I went to go pick it up (it was installed about an hour from where I live) he said he had to take out the JBL amp because there was no way to use it with the Pioneer without some additional hookup. He didn't have this hookup and said he spent several hours trying to figure out how to wire into the existing JBL amp but to no avail. So, when I went to go pick up my 4Runner he said I now had no subwoofer nor center channel. Does anyone know of what additional piece he is talking about to get this to work? He did say as soon as he knows what adapter to use for the 2006 I could come back and he would hook it back up free of charge.
The install was very clean I was very happy with the exception of loosing those two things. I also had the backup camera and XM radio installed (though he was out of standard XM receivers and put the NavTraffic unit in for the same price). I didn't subscribe to that service tho and see no issues.
Thanks for any help!

Did he give you the amp or leave it in place in your truck? If you have it, can you take some pics so we can see what kind of connetors need to go to it.
thanks

No the amp is now in the Pioneer box. (I guess he removed it)
I'm not the most knowledgable when it comes to Stereo installations so I'm not sure what I could show you.

I'm not sure if these would work...? He mentioned that 2002-2005 4Runners he had something for but the 2006 JBL was different and as far as he knew did not have a kit for yet. (again that he knew of)

I'll post them tonight!
BTW - The toggle your lights 3 times works perfectly. For the record, I have mine completely hooked up (as in the parking brake sensor is attached and installed correctly and not grounded). As long as the parking brake is not on when the car is turned on, I have successfully flickered my lights while the head unit is booting up every time. Drive safely.
Anyone have any other ideas for how to hook the origional JBL amp back up?

Well I have exhausted all my sources. I have talked to people at PAC, Metra, Toyota, JBL, Pioneer, just to name a few. NO ONE makes an adapter for the digital amp on the JBL Synthesis yet. Metra claims to be 'in the process' but the guy I talked to told me it wouldn't be ready for a while. Probably not until the end of the summer. Doesn't seem that hard to me if they know there is a demand for it. So I would suggest everyone send metra an email at [email protected]. Hopefully that will get their asses in gear and get it made. I have the Z1 system sitting here on my floor ready to put in, but I'd rather not spend the time and effort to do it if in 2 months I have a chance to do it the right way AND have the function of surround sound. My thoughts may change as it sits on the floor though.
Well thats my input...hopefully some of you guys can email metra and ask for a harness for the JBL synthesis digital amp.
Appreciate it guys!

I appologize for the next one.. It's rather 'polleny' here atm and I wanted to get these posted.. Don't mind the exterior of the car. Here is the backup camera however.
Thanks for the legwork ForRuner99.. I'll let you know if I find anything else out.

Do you have a gold trim around your "MENU" button or is that just weird lighting? I noticed this in your pics as well as on the original Z1 carton. Mine does not have this gold trim...hmmm.
Very professional install...congrats!
Did you get Bluetooth?
